This thing is a fantastic purchase. Shelve your CD drive and pop in an SSD.
You don't use your laptop's D:/ drive anymore. Heck, you've probably even burned out the motor by now. You're looking to add a sexy new SSD to your computer. But how to do it? Do you want to constantly flip it over and unscrew things to access the guts of it and risk accidentally electrocuting your wifi card or something? Forget all that and buy this DVD drive SATA bay. Your new 2.5" storage will be safe and secure. It has two screws towards the back of the bay to hold your drive extra securely, but you won't need them because the SATA connector is nice and snug. But if you do decide to use those screws, there's a tiny screwdriver included in the frame beneath the thin part - it's easy to miss. There's also a tiny switch you can toggle with the screwdriver, located around the corner from where this thing connects to your computer. Some folks said you need to flip the switch for use with Hewlett Packards, but I have an HP and it worked fine for me without using the switch. You can push the drive in with a finger no problem, though I wouldn't recommend doing this while your PC is powered up. There's no force required. And when it's time to pull this thing out because you're done cloning your old HDD to the new SSD? Simply take one of those small electronics screwdrivers you need to open the case screws, and stick it in the little nook conveniently located at the outside of the thin bit. A light tug or pry outwards and the connection with your motherboard releases. It's secure enough that it'll never fall out on its own, but not so tight you'll need to struggle. This may be slightly trickier for some cases or whatever, but with an HP dv7-3180 it's fantastically easy. 6/5. Will be recommending to techie DIYers everywhere.

It's a great product, extremely lightweight but very sturdy
I have a 2012 Samsung RV511 and when I went to screw on the face plate the screw from my computer was too big for the hole on the adapter. I had been wanting this for years so I wasn't about to just give up so I just pushed with a lot of force and it just rethreaded the hole and fit in perfectly. It's a great product, extremely lightweight but very sturdy. The left side of my face plate it a little loose but I think it's because I might have broken off a small piece of the fastener when I took it off my optical drive. It could be the adapter but I am not sure.

A Much Better Use for a Optical Drive
I was looking for something to expand my storage capacity in my laptop without having to lug around an external hard drive. I found it with this nifty little product. I don't really use my ODD that much anymore. I watch movies and listen to music with iTunes, share files with a thumb-drive, install programs over the internet. I can't think of a logical reason not to use the space of an ODD for storage, especially at this price. I can think of specific scenarios where an ODD might come in handy, but those times are just too few and far between. It does come with a great little hex-key-like screwdriver but I wouldn't recommend using it as once the product is installed there is no way to put it back in the holder. The installation was fairly straightforward, the hard part was the faceplate. It doesn't come with a face plate but that is good and bad. I personally hate messing with thin, flimsy plastic items. However I found this guide that may help you to figure out how to get the faceplate off of your existing optical drive. http://www.newmodeus.com/pics/OBHD/OBHD-Faceplate-Installation-Guide.pdfUsing my own faceplate I keep the aesthetics and original look of my laptop.

A Massive Pain, do not buy, doesn't even fit in most laptops
There are many products out there like this one, I've used a few and this is without a doubt the worst so far. It requires:* You to remove the faceplate off your existing drive or get a new faceplate* 2 out the 4 screw slots are actually unusable due to a lack of any way to actually screw them in.* You need to provide your own screws (which other competitors include), there are no integrated or included screws.* It doesn't actually fit in most Lenovo laptops (looking at X, T, and W series)Look at similarly priced competitors for an idea of what's out there-- the integrated screw driver was an interesting idea but the rest of the product is a mess.I'm not sure what the other reviewers were paid to say, but this product absolutely did not work.

Went into a DV6t-qe 6100 just fine, but the optical drive face didn't mount properly
Build quality and fitment seem good, but two issues:1) One of the integrated mounting screws didn't seem to screw in straight. The screw couldn't be straightened out, so I just threaded it in 1-1.5 threads to avoid cross-threading.2) The mounting features for the Optical Drive Face are lacking the necessary interlock features. One side of the face snaps in properly, while the other goes straight in and comes straight back out. Looks like I'll be breaking out the Devcon to permanently bond the two together.

Not a bad choice
It didn’t have a faceplate. I guess the idea is to use your old one on the dvd drive. On my toshiba there is a screw on the back of the drive to keep it in place. This one didn’t have one so I can remove the bay too easily. Still, it functions properly and the ssd has greatly improved my old laptop.

Won't work on any Dell or HP laptop, no ...
Won't work on any Dell or HP laptop, no retention tab to screw it into place. Have no idea why this would not come with at least a generic bezel.
