An Introduction to Parapsychology, 5th ed.

This is one of the few such textbooks of its kind and provides a grounded, reliable, and accessible overview of the topic--a a rarity of intellectual inquiry. A very good read for laypeople, as well.

Being a text book, and a wonderful one at that, this book for me, proved to be a challenge. A positive challenge though. While quite a bit of it was "over my head" that certainly did not detur me from continuing this book. This book is a great refernce material, and I look forward to going back and reviewing the areas that I highlighted, that were of specific interest to me.I gave this book five stars and, as previously mentioned, while it was a bit challenging, it is a worthwhile read, indeed! :-)

Excellent and balanced view of the state of the art in parapsychological research. Associated with the University of Edenburgh's Koestler Parapsychology Unit, it covers the basic areas of research and results to date. Was a student/researcher of the first Chair of the KPU (Robert Morris) when he was at UC Santa Barbara in the mid to late 1970's, about 8 years before he became the Chair. His tireless search for what could be real vs all of the bunk, bought my respect for the field. This text is from 2 current and prominent researchers. A must for anyone interested in the subject, whether you are a "believer" or not.

In depth study of Parapsychology. Sometimes a little hard to interpret. If your not scholarly, probably not the book for you.

The book was in great condition when I received it. It was also delivered on time. Based on my reading this book is interesting to read about parapsychology.

I did not find this book quite as neutral and well-written as other reviewers. The authors do have extensive knowledge of the studies conducted in this field, but these studies are not usualyl handled in a sufficiently critical way. I'm not a proponent of a hyper-sceptical approach, but I do appreciate careful use of statistical methods. The authors do give out the data on some studies where the results where highly signifcant - and I find these studies intriguing - but they go through lot of research without giving the reader the possibility to evaluate the studies themselves, no numbers, no details. Because of the lack of other even remotely scientific manuals in this field, I find this book useful, but still behind the standards of a typical university course book.Research on as controversial topic as this is requires rigorous criticism of the studies refferd to. That's how to make the actually significant studies stand out. The sheer amount of research is hardly interesting.

I rated this book 5 stars because it is a good introductory resource to whoever is interested to know more about Parapsychology but has 0 knowledge of it so far. Experiments and histories are illustrated clearly. Very interesting read!

Includes many aspects including the source & history of PP. Especially my wanted subject which was telekinesis.

Was used for my course at the University of Edenborough. Great book, lots of indepth material.

An excellent book on parapsychology. It covers all the relevant topics and is comprehensive in the studies covered, and I felt it gave a fair assessment on each of the topics, providing arguments for and against particular theories. The book is more of a textbook than a general read (it has questions placed at the end of each section), but this didn’t prevent me, as a general reader, learning a great deal from this book; indeed I felt the structure of the book particularly conducive for learning and finding my way around each of the topics, due to its use of intelligently placed headings and subheadings. All in all, I cannot think of a better introduction to this highly fascinating subject than this book. Highly recommended.I hope you find my review helpful.

Das Buch ist, wie erwartet schwer zu lesen wenn man nicht grade die ganzen Fachworte auf Englisch parat hat. Es ist sehr wissenschaftlich gehalten und auch recht weitschweifig, trotzdem sehr interessant.

With this I was hoping to just get an honest review of the literature around parapsychology but a quick wikipedia search would show that they left out fairly reliable sources critical to each of their findings they shared. The mediums they showed a fairly convincing story that they were fairly honest but all were caught faking according to wikipedia.

Great introductory text to the subject.
