Key operation instructions: The instructions are on the bottom of the box. Basically, the middle circle button turns the train on -- hold it for a few seconds, and then the red light will blink on / off. Then either the remote or the forward / backwards buttons on the train do what's expected. You could be out of batteries if nothing happens. Review: This is a good product. My kid really loved it. I've got a few trains in this price range, and this is the best for several reasons. First, the motive wheels are rubber rather than hard plastic, so they have better grip. Second, the train has a lot of oomph (2xAAA batteries). Third, the train has a lot of functionalities - making sounds, moving, and lights up. None of the other trains at this price range had it. The remote is a nice bonus. It's much easier to control the train on a track than trying to get to it and press a button. This is much sturdier than the other trains I bought. The extra 2 carriages are nice, plus the logs have a magnet on top, so if you've got a magnetic toy crane, they can be loaded / unloaded. Overall, this is a great train set. Do recommend.

Awesome toy

Arrived promptly. Easy setup. Worked well with my grandson's wooden tracks. The remote works but not really needed. Pulled 3 cars easily but struggled to pull more. Can climb gradual gradients but gets stuck if track is too steep. All in all he us really enjoying it.

Great little train with remote, two trucks with - It has problems on small turn tracks due to its longer wheel base. - It's slightly faster than the other two battery trains we have. - Not as stable in reverse, when pushing trucks (often de-rails). - There's no magnet on the front - it takes a few seconds to connect to the remote. Still an excellent buy!

Works great on my son’s wooden track set he had and he really enjoys it. He’s 4 and likes trains but even I enjoyed sitting with him and figuring out the remote options just on our floor no tracks it was still fun that way as well.

Train does not work, either with the buttons on the train or by connecting to the remote. Remote will turn on and train will "blink" when you hold down the middle but does not move and does not communicate with remote. Unfortunately this was bought last year as a Christmas present. I thought at first it was the batteries but several new batteries later it's definitely an issue with the toy.

Stopped working wheels stopped spinning

Nice little train for the price. It actually works well. Good grip on the wooden tracks. I've had it pull up to five cars. Long press the middle button to turn on/off; short press it to stop the train. I'm really tickled at the steam noises, especially when you stop...you can actually hear the engine vent off its steam.
