Very different than the original but fun!
I bought this because I liked the original 2-player The Lost Cities and was excited to see a 4-player version avaliable. So far, I've only played this with 2 people and while it's quite different than the original, found it to be very enjoyable. The game is at least 50% different (really only the expedition element remains) so don't expect them to be the same. We had a good time, will play it again and look forward to playing it with friends!

Good game, easy to play
It's an easy game to learn and play. It's got good strategy and it was cheap at the time of purchase. The plastic covering was torn off on delivery but apart from that, it all came intact

Moves quickly, but requires strategy
When we want to play a game that moves quickly, but still requires strategic thinking, this is a go to. We love it.

Excellent Auction and Set Collection game for all player counts
I picked this up after playing a friends copy a couple months ago. I am a fan of the designer's other games but less so of the original Lost Cities game. It is a good game, just not something I tend to want to pick up. I love auctions and the closed nature of the economy (coins paid in auctions will come back, evenly split to ALL players- at prescribed intervals). At 2 players watching what your opponent needs and mitigating your coins to force them to pay for it make for a tense balance of "is it worth it"?This is also true at higher player counts as each player should be watching what everyone needs to maximize their chance for success.I am a avid gamer and have introduced this to non-gamers and had great success with both groups. Don't just expect Lost Cities, but think of it as a merger between RA (a truly great game) and Lost Cities, you'll get the gist of what to expect. Excellent game for the value.

Excellent auction game! Great decisions with few rules.
I am a big Knizia fan and enjoy the original Lost Cities, so this was an automatic buy for me. I like this even more than the original - I prefer auctions to the excruciating hand management decisions of the first Lost Cities. Set up is easy - divide up the coins equally, and divide the shuffled deck into 4 basically equal parts. Place the first pile in the middle of the table, and set aside the other 3 piles for later. Each player has one choice on his turn: either turn over a card and add it to the middle, or start an auction. Highest bidder in the auction places all his coins in the central pot, then takes as many of the face-up cards in the middle as he or she wants, and can choose to trash one of the other cards. The rest of the cards are left in the middle for a future auction. When a pile runs out, all the coins in the central pot are divided equally among the players and the next pile of cards gets placed in the middle. The game ends when all 4 piles have been exhausted. Knowing when to start an auction, how much to bid, and which cards to take/trash/save for later is challenging! I have had a blast playing this with my 14 year old and 20 year old kids. The box is small, so it is a great game to travel with. Highly recommended!

Ho hum...
Not a great game for two people. We were very disappointed. We ended up rolling a dice to determine who won the cards instead of betting coins...
