Tin Whistle - A Complete Guide to Playing Irish Traditional Music on the Whistle

I’m systematically working my way through the start of the intermediate stage. I am having to work my way through slowly as I am unlearning bad technique. Very impressed by the concise and easy to follow instructions. Very impressed!

Good introduction to urish whistle and advanced techniques.

It's a well thought out book with all the basics for timing and technique. Lots an lots of songs in music and tab. The audio download is quite big and it tends to download some random photos of pages from the book aswell but other than that no issues with the download.

Expensive but very detailed.Not got my head around it yet but will persevere

This book is the best on the market for learning the irish whistle. I have tried others but this one makes it so simple and understandable to a novice. I couldnt find the audio download so e mailed the source and Steve Ducke himself sent me instructions by e mail immediately. What a star this guy is. Highly recommended

I like the audio tracks that accompany the text. Sometimes effects in the audio versions are not explained in any detail. A kindle version would make it much better. The book is just too bulky to take about and kindle would make it possible to have the text and audio on the one device. I can’t think why no kindle bug I see that there a very few kindle music books.

This book was just what I was looking for.The material is introduced progressively:The author isolates and explains key aspects of technique - articulation, phrasing, breathing, rhythm, tone.It includes a wonderful repertoire selection.Recordings are available online to download which are great to check your own playing against and even to transcribe from.Very happy with the purchase - a big well done and thanks to the author.

This book is excellent - the most thorough and detailed self-tutor I have seen for tin whistle. In the first part, the author focuses on teaching all of the notes, working on breathing and rhythm, and lots of simple but lovely songs and slow airs to practice fundamentals with. Only after you are comfortable with these basics do you move on to the next section, which has a thorough introduction to the structure of traditional dance music (jigs, reels, hornpipes), with special attention to patterns and rhythms, as well as more breathing work. And only after mastering this do you move on to ornamentation, again introduced in a graded fashion, with lots of tunes to practice with.I especially love that there is downloadable audio with literally every single tune and practice exercise for you to listen to, as well as tablature for each and every tune. I can't read music well, and this has always been a barrier to learning from books. This author encourages you to learn the traditional way - by ear. Musical notation is included as well for those who want it, but for those who do not, you can just listen and learn.

This is a good course for learning the tin whistle. I have had to unlearn some bad habits, which would not have happened, had I learnt proper technique, that are taught in this book.

Purchased a Low D whistle and used this book as a start to learning. Was well organised and took me through the steps I needed to learn.
