Vegan Yack Attack on the Go!: Plant-Based Recipes for Your Fast-Paced Vegan Lifestyle •Quick & Easy •Portable •Make-Ahead •And More! Review: Great vegan book to add to your collection - Love the variety of recipes! I have made the pierogis, Beasty cauliflower breakfast burritos, BBQ tempeh wrap, cauliflower Alfredo and Summer Stew - and all of them were delicious!! I made a double batch of the pierogis and they froze up well. I also froze the cauliflower burritos - works great. I couldn’t believe how good the Cauliflower Alfredo tasted - one of my new favorites. I don’t understand the reviews that say this book has a lot of junk food in it - I guess it depends on what you call junk food - if you are gluten free then I would assume most books would need to be modified. I thought most of the recipes are not using processed items - I don’t consider tempeh has processed. Summer Stew was all veggies and delicious. The only thing that needs editing are the yields - for example I made the Cauliflower burritos and the yield said 4 - I made 8-10 burritos. I didn’t need another cook book but glad I added this book to my collection. Review: Easy to find ingredients - Fairly short ingredient lists that are easy to find, great photos!

Great variety and flavor!
Ordered this book b/c it was recommended by Sophia De Santis (Veggies Don't Bite). Was quite pleased that this book is as easy to use and loaded with photos like Sophia's Vegan Burger and Burritos book. The macaroni and trees recipe was great and we're making the summer stew this evening to use up some great produce. I like the tips and info at the beginning of the book and how recipes are grouped, i.e. "30-minute meals", "Bulk Cooking", etc. This cookbook will be well-worn in a very short time...

Delicious recipes, but some require odd ingredients or fake food
After trying a few recipes from this book, I knew I had to get my own copy. Pretty much anything I have made has been delicious and satisfying. I make the Recovery Smoothie regularly, and just had it for breakfast -- it's great even if you aren't "recovering" from anything. The freezer black bean burritos are made so the black beans are actually flavorful. The Tahini-Miso Chickpeas with Zucchini are to die for delicious. And the Butternut Cheese Sauce itself is worth the price of the book -- a great savory sauce that is made with veggies and not nutritional yeast! You can put it over vegetables or veggie pasta to get even more great health power in your life. The only "miss" so far is the white bean hummus, but I have a chickpea hummus I prefer. Another excellent thing is that most of the foods are quick to make (not always the case with many vegan recipes) and in many cases, she uses dates and fruit rather than sugar as a sweetener. If you're also trying to eat clean and avoid gluten many of the recipes are so or give you an easy option to avoid it. You can also adapt the recipes, I've found. For instance, the Recovery Smoothie tastes just fine without dates, and as I said, you can put the Butternut Cheese Sauce on vegetables rather than pasta. I used corn starch and Worcestershire instead of tapioca flour and soy sauce in the homemade seitan and it was so delicious I just ate a "sausage" by itself. As other reviewers have noted, there is too much dependence on faux food. I eat a plant-based diet for health, not ethics, so if the recipes are calling for fake vegan mayonnaise, fake sour cream, fake chocolate, seriously, I'm just going to use the real thing, as I did when making the BBQ Tempeh Wrap (which may have been flavor-chosen to work with tofu mayonnaise, for what it's worth.) A S'Mores dip that calls for vegan chocolate chips, vegan marshmallows and gluten free vegan graham crackers -- seriously? Just have some real S'mores, if you crave them that hard. This is just a few of the recipes, and there are plenty that stick to all-natural, non-processed food. I'd prefer more of the imaginative recipes using fresh ingredients, because if you're a vegan avoiding animal products, you can make fake versions of SAD meals with fake vegan food -- or eat the real thing, but rarely. There are also a few ingredients that will be hard to get in your area unless you happen to live next a Whole Foods or similar store, and have a good Asian grocer in the area. Even the grocer at my Sprouts looked at me funny and didn't know what I was talking about when I asked for buckwheat groats, and even my Whole Foods doesn't carry kala namak. You can order these, and other hard to find foods here on Amazon, but I don't like ordering food unseen especially when I don't know whether I'd like it or not. That said, the food in this book is delicious, and worth buying for that alone.

Jackie and this cookbook has helped my family to transition into a Vegan lifestyle easily! Her seitan recipes have helped me to make school lunches a breeze and dishes for my family a delicious gathering. We love to camp and are always on the go and Jackie has also included recipes to make it easier to eat Vegan while still busy!

The Perfect Cookbook
This cookbook has been amazing. While I love to cook, I don’t often have the time during the week and try to cook enough on Sundays to make it last all week for me. I haven’t been able to put this book down since I got it. Every recipe has been beyond delicious (The mac & trees? The baked falafel with THAT tzatziki? OBSESSED) and they’re all quick and easy. I’m generally a “junk food” vegan, but this book makes it easy to get all my veggies in in the right way and I feel good after every meal. I can’t stop recommending this cookbook to everyone I know, it’s one of my all time favorites.

A lot of processed ingredients, gluten, etc. Not for seriously health conscious vegans.
Ingredients used in this book include: Seitan, soyrizo, agave nectar, vegan mozzarella shreds (store bought), unbleached all-purpose flour, brown sugar, tempeh, beer, powdered sugar, vegan chocolate chips (store bought), vegan marshmallows (store bought), vegan butter (store bought), vegan sprinkles (store bought), vegan Cheddar shreds (store bought), vegan beef bouillon, tofu, vital wheat gluten, sugar, vegetable shortening, plain nondairy yogurt (store bought), vegan graham cracker crumbs (store bought), popcorn kernels, uncooked rice noodles, etc. You decide.

I just started eating vegan because my bf has been for a couple of years. This book is great. There are so many easy recipes that don’t require a lot of “special” items that you need from a specialty store.

This book is so much fun. I love that Jackie Sobon's voice is light-hearted and informative without being at all "preachy", which I have found previously when reading vegan/vegetarian food blogs and cookbooks. I should probably also say here that I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I do enjoy healthy food and I try to eat vegetarian food as much as possible. This book makes that choice much simpler. The pictures in this book are sunny and gorgeous and make you feel healthy just looking at them. The photos are detailed so you know what you're aiming for. The photos are so gorgeous you could use this as a coffee table book if it's not being used in the kitchen! The recipes I have tried were both tasty and healthy and many inspired a new way of looking at an old recipe. For example, I love avo smash on toast and Sobon goes further here with her "loaded avocado lentil toast", which made the option much more exciting and filling. I also really enjoyed all of the jar recipes and found them so useful - again, I really like the idea of jars for salads but my ideas were getting a bit tired and this has helped reinvigorate lunches. I am yet to try Vanilla Chip Buckwheat Bars... they're next on the list. I have a friend who suffers from a number of food allergies and I have bought her a copy of this book. I also really loved here, as someone who is gluten intolerant, that all recipes are clearly marked so you can see whether it is GF or at least readily adaptable. Before buying this book for a friend, I received an ARC via NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group - Fair Winds Press and Jackie Sobon.

Love this book! It is a bit weird to have a whole chapter on food for things like camping, but it'll be nice to have in the future now that our son is getting big enough to take camping. I love the quick recipes. The service was very fast.
