Beautiful, historical account
This is a beautifully written narrative of the historical account of Squanto's life and first Thanksgiving. True, the author takes liberties with what he imagines Squanto's thoughts would be about his "lived experience" however, as Christianity teaches, God does have a will for our individual lives which gives each of us a purpose for His glory. If Squanto had indeed believed the teachings of the monks, he of course would have seen the purpose in his suffering, how God works all out for good that love the Lord. The book is extremely well written and the art is gorgeous, depicting the pilgrims in historically accurate colorful outfits. I wish I could give this book 10 stars!

Engaging
This is the best children’s book about Thanksgiving. All my children enjoy it and learn from it. The content is excellent and the writing style is engaging. I wish the author would write more children’s books.

Good story and art
We read this story after reading Squanto: Friend of the Pilgrims. Both add something to the experience. The longer book obviously has more details. But the imagery in this picture book is beautiful, and we love that it gives more focus to the Catholic element - that God had a plan for Squanto.

Heartwarming and Encouraging Historical Account
The true story of Squanto, a young Pawtuxet Indian brave, who was kidnapped from his village in North America by greedy English traders and sold into slavery. Though the situation seemed hopeless for Squanto, he eventually understood that God had a plan to use him in great and unexpected ways. Children will find this story exciting, and the lessons learned will be so encouraging, especially to those who find themselves in difficult and even desperate situations. It's hard to miss the parallel between Squanto's story and that of Joseph in the Bible.

Good alternative for Thanksgiving
My son's class was asked to read a Thanksgiving book and he chose this one. It was beyond his reading level, but that was no fault of the book. It was a nice different read and exposed my kids to a different Thanksgiving story than they usually hear or read on their own.

Squanto - acknowledging God’s provision with Thanksgiving
We had read this book with our older child each year as we celebrated Thanksgiving. We now have another some child and wanted the same tradition with him. So thankful it is available again.
