what is the difference between large and large/large?

Large/large is actually large/long it's just typo, I told them before but it's not fix yet.

I'm thinking of buying this to wear over shorts for riding my motorcycle in the summer? Would it provide adequate protection against road rash?

No, a cotton/poly jumpsuit is not going to offer any significant protection. In a high speed slide they will tear right off your legs.What you want to look for is an Aerostich Roadcrafter one-piece suit. They also have pants and jackets that are separate and zip together. I used to ride with the just the Aerostich pants and a leather jacket. I was never a fan of the jacket because it was big. Not a flaw of the jacket. More of a preference thing because their jackets probably offered the best protection at the time short of leather racing suit. The only semi-major thing I did not like about the Aerostitch pants were the knee pads. They were stiff and big and loose and would wander around. I eventually took them out because once when I did go down the kneepad was so loose that it just slipped around my leg and offered no protection. It was a low speed slide, so just the nylon alone of the suit was enough to protect my knee, so it wasn't a big deal.

what's the best way to know your size? I wear a size m shirt, 6'1 30" waist

Hello, the 30" waist size is Small, however, a Medium Regular would probably be a better fit due to most men's shoulders being broader.
