Typical Clint Eastwood western
In this Eastwood Western, you never really know who the stranger is nor anything about him. He is truly the man with no name.

One of Clint Eastwood’s greatest western movies
This movie was one of a number of great western movies that was produced by Eastwood during the 70’s.

Good? Bad? Hes the guy with the gun
This is probabley the strangest Eastwood western I have ever seen. It says the man with no name returns. its better to say this is like the man with no name mixed with pale rider, except he Makes no bones about being good or bad. most of his actions reflect that the man with no name has come to an end of his time, not caring for good or evil. the musical score is the best in any clint eastwood western. My favorite eastwood western would have to be outlaw josse wales and now this one. the mood in this film is ruminesant with the end of the call of the wild. I cant put my finger on what makes this film so memorable. Maybe this was the only way clint knew how to say goodbye to the man with no name. Its like the stranger is more of a ghost of the man with no name. Very good eastwood western. If you like clints westerns then get this one for sure.I got the bluray version. It has no special features just the movie in high def. I feel that all eastwood westerns are better on dvd because its slightly more gritty lending to the feel of his drama. All eastwood fans know that his westrns are very gritty and rough. So high def might no be the best viewing. But with that said. This film shines in high def with its vibrant colors. The sound is good not great. Some moments the music washes out the acting. I think that was the intent. Kinda like in for a few dollars more. If you like the other man with no name roles then you cant pass this one by. i only hope that clint is recognized as a western icon like wayne. Great job on a bizarre horror western.

NEW BLU-RAY TRANSFER FOR HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER DOES LOOK BEAUTIFUL, BETTER THAN THE DVD RELEASE FOR SURE,
One of my favourite Clint Eastwood westernsit's Classic atmospheric Thriller in the Western genre, very errie film with a touch of the Supernatural like a Ghost story in the westthat's how i see the filmwell written script, well actored and well Directedif you want the plot of the film go to wikipedia.comthis review is about the difference between the DVD release and this new blu-ray releasei have the DVD release from 2002 which has an average widescreen transfer in Dolby digital sound only but hardly no extras at allthe special features are Production notes and Theatrical trailer that's it.Now Universal has re-issued this film as a 40th Anniversary edition blu-raywell i expect a 40th Anniversary edition to have all new extras like a Documentary or featurette.this new Blu-ray release has no new special features at all, just a Theatrical trailerso i took a risk and bought it for $11 on amazon.comcause on the back cover it says the movie has been restored and remasteredso when i got it i watch the film a bit just to check out the qualitythe new blu-ray transfer for the picture quality is beautiful i must sayi was stunned and amazed on how Good it looks in 2:35:1 widescreenmuch much better clearer picture quality than the 2002 dvd releaseUniversal really did make the effort to clean up the picture quality for surenot much Grain on this blu-rayplus the Audio quality has been boosted up for sure, a new 5.1 master audio mixmuch better than the Dolby Digital sound from the dvdit's tragic that Universal didn't make the effort with the special features at allthey cleaned up the picture quality for sure but didn't bother giving new special featureswhich is very disapointing and pathetic i'm a big fan of this filmwhat's the point advertising this new blu-ray as a 40th Anniversary edition when you get no new extrasthere should be at least a new interview with Clint Eastwood or an Audio commentaryfor fans like myself this new blu-ray is only Good to Upgrade from your dvd releasecause as i said the blu-ray transfer does look stunning and amazing, not much Grain at alland the sound quality is boosted to 5.1 master audioif you have the old dvd release, scrap ittime to upgrade to this new blu-ray release worth paying $11 for it off amazonbut Universal shouldn't have advertised it as 40th anniversary edition cause it isn't in my opinionthere are no new special features, so fans like myself should not be misleadedbut the blu-ray transfer is excellent thoui gave this blu-ray 4 stars based on the new picture quality transfer

HIGH PRAISE FOR EASTWOOD'S DRIFTER ON BLU RAY
Universal has given "High Plains Drifter"(1973) a beautiful Blu-ray transfer for it's 40th Anniversary that will make Western fans proud and fans of Clint Eastwood want to add this to their collections. Eastwood made three Westerns in the Seventies("Joe Kidd", "The Outlaw Josey Wales") and "High Plains Drifter" was his first Western as both star and director. Filmed at Mono Lake, the cinematography by Bruce Surtees looks stunning in this Blu-ray presentation from Universal with vibrant colors that are a wonder to behold. The restoration team at Universal deserves lots of credit for making this great Western look brand new. Not only can you see the dust of the town of Lago, but you can feel it too. Even the beads of sweat on the actor's faces stand out in the pristine close-ups that Eastwood films. Another improvement of the standard DVD release is the Audio. It's so clear that in the beginning of the film when Eastwood's mysterious Stranger rides silently into town the only sound is the horse's hoofs hitting the dusty dirt road(A word of warning: the gunshots are loud so you may want to turn down the volume). The production design is another standout given a whole new life through this Blu ray presentation. You can really see the detail in both the interiors and exteriors. Costumes are more vivid too down to the smallest details. "High Plains Drifter" is 105 minutes(Aspect Ratio: 2.35.1) and contains the following subtitles: English SDH and Spanish. Audio features are English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, English Dolby Digital 2.0 and French DTS Digital Surround 2.0. The only special feature is the Theatrical Trailer. This Blu ray also includes both Digital Copy and UltraViolet and comes in a slipcase. If you love Westerns or a fan of Clint Eastwood, then you'll be more than pleased with this great new Blu-ray release from Universal.

A Drifter With No Name
Similar to his iconic role as the Man With No Name in Leone's Dollars Trilogy, Eastwood's a man with no name in High Plains Drifter. Casually he drifts into a small town where he earns his keep with his gun-slinging abilities, Eastwood's drifter character is supposed to protect the town against bandits, while harboring a secret past connection to the town. They say the dead never rest if buried in an unmarked grave. Love this movie, enjoy it.

Kino Lorber 4K
This is a big improvement over the old blu-ray. The picture has much more detail with much more natural colours ie skin tones. The 5.1 audio is nice & clear. If you like Clint Eastwood this is a must have addition to your 4K collection.
