Retro-Bit Official SEGA Saturn Control Pad for Sega Saturn - Original Port - Slate Grey

This is a brilliant product - I have it side-by-side with an original Saturn pad and it feels identical - loose-ish D-pad and buttons, stiff start button. Only difference in feel is the shoulder buttons as others have said - not that same digital click.Regardless, I can't believe that we can buy brand new official pads for this relatively obscure, 25-year old console in 2020. Remarkable. Wish there were Sony and Nintendo equivalents.

Feels absolutely spot on, identical to the 1994 version, I read a couple of reviews that said the d pad was loose. Thats one of the best things about the original saturn controllers the slightly squishy d pad made this controller ideal for playing fighting games like street fighter alpha etc. The only difference I noticed was the l and r buttons are not as clicky as on originals but this is more a sound difference as they do feel the same, they just dont click

The main reason I bought this controller is that I always wanted to own the original and potentially pricey Saturn "Cool Pad" (which I think was only released in Japan).I've seen alot of people complaining that their d-pad broke or it didn't feel right but luckily I think I've got one of the ones with an ok d-pad but I haven't used it extensively yet.Unlike some of the reviews on here I don't think this pad is as good as the original Saturn Model 2 controller.The shoulder buttons lack the micro switches of the original (they're a bit mushy and not clicky) and the controller feels a bit lighter compared to my black Model 2 controller as well.The 6 face buttons and the START button seem fine and the lead is actually longer than the original Model 2 controller.However my main problem with this is that the controller can pause the game when you press multiple buttons and the d-pad. This isn't the case with the original Model 2 controller (I done a few tests!). This mainly happens on fighting games like Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter and X-Men vs Street Fighter. I haven't tried it on any less hectic fighting games or any other genres yet. (I've noticed that this is an issue in reviews of other 3rd party Saturn pads too).Also the pad's connector that you plug into the Saturn is a bit tight and you need to give it a bit of force to remove it from the Saturn! The original pad smoothly plugged in and out with no fuss at all.I've also tried it out on 3 other consoles and MAME using 2 controller adapters (a Mayflash SS Sega Saturn Controller Adapter Converter for PC + a Total Control 3 Saturn to Dreamcast adapter). The Saturn pad works perfectly fine on my Dreamcast, and surprisingly doesn't have the auto-pause problem that I mentioned above, no matter how hard I tried to make it happen! However the pad wasn't recognised in MAME or as a legacy controller on my PS4 on Street Fighter 5 and wasn't recognised on my PS3 on Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. My original Saturn pad is recognised and works fine on MAME, my PS3 and Street Fighter 5 on my PS4.Overall it's an ok pad which looks very nice and it's far better than my other 3rd party pad (I can't remember who it was made by but I've never used it in the 23 years that I've owned it as it was that bad - it's got a horrible floaty d-pad that's impossible to use with any fighting game!) but I wouldn't buy the black version of this and would just try to find a decent original Saturn Model 2 pad on eBay.Also I should point out that my box came with some of the packaging damaged (like someone had stuck gaffer tape on the box then ripped it off and took some of the box art with it) but I couldn't be bothered to return it for a new box.

I may have just been unlucky with mine (along with some other reviewers) but the D-pad developed a fault after about 6 months of light use. It was a nice item while it lasted and it looked (and on the most part) felt authentic next to the official Sega controllers in my collection but I'm not sure if I would buy another one. I wish I were able to write a better review about this product because it is great to see companies like this supporting older consoles in going to such great lengths to make decent alternatives to ageing hardware, especially at such reasonable prices, but maybe this controller needs a little more development?

All around a very suitable replacement if your old controller is showing signs of wear and tear. I much prefer the shoulder buttons on this pad to the ones on the standard Saturn controller and find the d-pad more comfortable too. The cable is plenty long enough and the build quality seems fine so far.

Very nice controller for you old Saturn. I've no trouble recommending this as a replacement. It's a shame they didn't have a European style controller for that more authentic feel for me personally but that design always had issues with the bumper buttons so makes sense they'd choose this one.

I receive in my mail two controllers, one of the Japan version and one black US version, both controllers had the same d-pad issues, the d-pad was very loose and clunky. Although the face buttons were in excellent condition, the d-pads were faulty. If this is the case, amazon should stop shipping back faulty products, this is wrong policy. definetly something wrong with the controller, maybe I got a returned product?

Everything is the same except the d-pad (it works but feels like broken compared to original) and shoulder buttons (clicking sound is missing). I'm not sure how this will affect playing games, but the d-pad feels very strange in compare with the old original controller. Unfortunately I was expecting more and I am a little disappointed. It works and can be a cheap alternative or second controller for not demanding games, but if you don't have original pad, buy it second hand. Now im not sure how is the mega drive controller. I was planning to buy it too, but now will wait for reviews.

Perfetto, funziona bene

In the headline off this product it says USB and in the text it says that it is compatible with PC, Mac and SteamTM.I order 2 and both off them came with a Saturn contact and not USB.I will return these and request new ones. I can only hope that this was an one-time occurrence.

Der Controller überzeugt in fast jeder Hinsicht: Es handelt sich um offiziell lizenzierte SEGA-Controller und Retro-Bit durfte die Original-Designs für seine Neuentwicklung verwenden. Das merkt man! Die Qualität entspricht 1:1 dem Original-(NTSC-)Controller (hier im Vergleich zum japanischen Controller), die Buttons und das Steuerkreuz sind vom Druckpunkt und der Bewegung her so gut wie nicht zu unterscheiden (und damit perfekt) und es gibt ein 3m langes Kabel (Original 1,8m).Es wäre eigentlich eine 10/10, wenn da nur nicht diese eine Sache wäre: Die Schultertasten. Diese unterscheiden sich etwas von den Original-Controllern, weil der Druckpunkt anders ist, etwas weicher um genauer zu sein. Es handelt sich dabei NICHT um die im Original-Controller verwendeten Mikroschalter, weil Retro-Bit keinen Hersteller solcher Mikroschalter mehr gefunden hat. Aber selbst nach längeren Panzer Dragoon Zwei Sessions (90° Drehung über L/R-Taste) fällt es nur rudimentär auf, dass hier nicht die gleiche Präzision vorliegt, wie im Original. Für Enthusiasten eventuell der Deal-Breaker, für mich definitiv verschmerzbar, weil ich bisher auch keine fehlenden Eingaben feststellen konnte.FAZIT: Für den Preis und die gebotene Qualität ein Pflichtkauf für alle Freunde des Sega Saturn, z.B. um Controller für Saturn Bomberman aufzustocken. Und "Slate Grey" aka "Cool Pad/Skeleton Pad" sieht auch noch fantastisch aus.

Pour le prix j'aime la qualité generale du produit MAIS elle n'est pas aussi bonne que l'originale(j'ai testé et comparé).Pour une manette sous licence officielle il aurait fallu mieux controller sa fabrication, d'un bouton à l'autre ou d'une direction à l'autre la resistance est soit trop dure ou trop molle mais ça ne nuit pas à son utilisation et le"clic" des gachettes n'est pas aussi prononcé que sur celle d'origine.Je recommande tout de méme ce produit qui fait tres bien le job !MAJ(28/05/2019): Apres quelques heures d'utilisation la manette a ENFIN la qualité de l'originale, un peu d'usure et voila le travaille!

Une très bonne manette pour jouer exclusivement à la Saturn. Elle est identique au manette originale de la Saturn. Son design et sa couleur translucide est super !
