Absolute Fun!
My sons and I have had Segway S machines since Christmas and we've really enjoyed them. We considered getting the Go Kart kit for them but when I saw this I waited until Segway Ninebot released this to the pubic. The box it came in was all beat up, and some of the Styrofoam was broken, but the actual go kart was in perfect shape. It pretty much comes assembled fully. You just have to spend about 15 to 20 minutes putting the little pieces together and then plug it in for a full charge. I was skeptical about how well this is built until I got it. This thing is SOLID! The pedals are well-made, the frame feels very sturdy, steering assembly is solid, the speaker is a nice piece of equipment, the handbrake works incredibly well and I never feel any instability at any speed. A couple of people have ridden this that well-exceed 220 lbs and they were able to achieve the top speed. I did buy a compatible speedometer from eBay which costs like $40 to $50 at the time. Not sure what it is now. That is my only real complaint. They should have included a speedometer. So, all I have to say is WOW! This is nothing but pure fun. The acceleration is phenomenal. Much better than the standard gas combustion go karts you use on fun park tracks. It really puts you back in your seat like you are driving a Lamborghini (which I have driven) but it tops out at 23 mph. So basically you are at full speed in about 1 to 1.5 seconds. This thing is VERY low to the ground, but you do have enough clearance to avoid smashing the front on most entryways to driveways and sidewalks. You need to be really careful and use the flag it comes with. Cars are going to have a very hard time seeing you around any objects. I would be very apprehensive letting any child drive this on any public road in any neighborhood because of that reason alone. Try not to be too cool for helmets and extra pads for your knees and elbows. You never know when you have to make a really sharp emergency turn to avoid something and flip this over even though it would be hard to do (it is possible though). Because you're so low, and obviously you are wide open to the outside, the 23 mph top speed is going to feel much faster than 23 mph in a car. That is what Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain at Disney World achieves for speed even though it seems much faster. This will satisfy a lot of thrill seekers. The steering is pretty sweet once you get used to it. At first it seems very jerky but it isn't meant to be precise at slow speeds without power steering. After a while you'll realize that it performs nicely at high speeds and rounding corners at high speeds is great once you get the hang of it. I have NOT been able to drift in this go kart because the roads in my neighborhood need to be paved. It's impossible to drift. I need to find a place where the surface is smooth enough and then I'll report back on it. The speaker really is a neat aspect of this. It is rechargeable but one thing to note is that it does take a while to recharge. It synchronizes with the pedals so that when you push the gas it revs up like a race engine. It is done almost perfectly. As you accelerate the sound becomes far-more aggressive. Not using this leaves you with a silent ride which isn't nearly as much fun. You can also synch your iPhone to it and play your music instead, but I'd rather use the engine sounds. The only thing I didn't like about it is that it did not come with English instructions. Just Chinese - I don't know if that is something they forgot to put in there, or they just counted on people figuring it out. It wasn't hard and the Segway app picked it up right away. The lighting effects are cool but the green headlight on this is basically useless in terms of illuminating what is in front of you. I imagine they did not put real headlights on this because they don't want people driving at night in this. I imagine you can find external, battery operated lights to mount on both sides if you wanted to. I might try that down the road, but for now I'll keep the night rides to a minimum. This comes with a knee-bar if you want to take the Ninebot S-Max out of it and use it like the Segway S models (hoverboard style). It's better than what comes with the S, but it does not come with the full extension bar that you steer with your hands like purchasing the Ninebot S-Max separately gives you. I imagine that Ninebot will eventually offer this as an accessory but as of today they do not. This was a impulse purchase, but it is so much fun. The only issue is that there aren't many places around to ride it. Even in my neighborhood, people park on the side of the road during the day and it gets hard to see cars coming. We're going to find other places to take this to. This is a no-brainer if you're looking for something really fun and aren't worried about the cost.

Oh What Fun It Is to Ride in a one Hoverboard Open Kitcart
I'll start with the Like: 2 thumbs way up (to borrow S & E's movie review phrase). We bought 2 kits and one hover board on a fund raiser (Indiegogo - I think is the name) and a kit and hover from the big A-zon plus we had an S-way minipro hover from last Xmas. We got the info on the upcoming kit availability last summer. These were for my 3 boys (13 and younger) of course but at 6 feet and 230 pounds I love them too! Yes I'm over the recommended weight limit but that just means the battery runs down faster. Otherwise my 100 pound 10 year old was able to go only 1 mile an hour faster as measured by the iPhone app. Top speed around 15 MPH (sigh) but quick acceleration. We have bought a bunch of hover boards over the last few years but I wish they had all been the Segway’s. A year ago I thought this minipro model hover was somehow the best thought-out in the category of "fun"/ interesting and now flash forward it has proven so. The cart kit build is way better than any of the after-market chairs and trikes we acquired to strap other model hover boards to. It clearly can take my weight and I can hoist my 50 pound overweight Shiba Inu on my lap for his favorite "ride" and the frame still doesn't flex - nice! They even withstood the demolition derby UPS put them through as evidenced by the shredded and taped box's the first two kits arrived in. Not all is perfect for someone who hates reading manuals. While the cart is nearly complete, stretch and secure the frame length, bolt in the seat, install a clip to secure the steering column for your desired height and install the 6 included batteries. Strapping a new hover board needs some manual edification; the board has to be "prepped" first. Update your phone app but you don't need the phone to drive these and we got all 3 carts to go full speed nearly right away (after balancing the hovers separately). Since we had a S-way minipro from last Christmas that one strapped onto cart kit 1 and boogied full speed right away. If you are buying a new S-way hover board you have to "balance" it first; the hover board manual will have that info. That balancing part wasn't obvious in the cart manual (at least to me and another reviewer here). With the new un-balanced hover the 2nd kit took off backward then, after messing with it, forward and injured one of my 10 year old boys, enough to draw tears and send him running back to his computer games (uuuggh). My 13 year old remembered that, when new, the minipro hover had to be balanced and once so could be laid on its side, sans leg handle thingy, for "cart" mode. By the time we got to the 3rd cart we were pretty handy at it; past learning curve. That said the only other concerns in an overcrowded house is storage. I stand the carts on their "beefy" back side frame in an outbuilding with a heater to keep the batteries from shivering. They are also heavy so moving them anywhere pretty much requires 2 people. 2 of my 3 boys can barely carry one side and the front side, while lighter, cuts into your hand when carrying it with hover attached. In summary - once combined together (hover and cart kit) these things are low riding fast accelerating fun. We strapped flags from a recumbent bike store so you can see them better in the day and the programmable hover lights add nice effects in the evening, Good stuff!

Great Fun that lasted 1 day
I had been looking at purchasing this product for over a year. Finally decided to go ahead and purchased it mainly because Amazon had it in stock. Upon arrival the box was very neat and perfectly packaged. Assembly was not difficult but also not easy. Instructions are kind of hard to understand but you can find many videos online. After setting up the Go kart and calibrating with blue tooth after a full charge we decided to try it out. This product was SO MUCH FUN! I cannot say how much fun my family and I had for 1 day. The next day after a full charge we decided to pull it out I was personally driving the go kart going over 20 mph all of a sudden I had a beeping noise that I never was able to get to go away (not battery related) its programming related and I pretty much lost any brakes. Luckily we were in our neighborhood and not in an intersection or anything like that and I was able to coast to a stop. I had to get out turn off and turn on and the Go Kart would work find for 10 mins, then the same issue would happen. Finally after a few tries the beeping and red light would not go away. I tried youtube videos, Amazon Support, Segway support which is a real problem. They are only open M-F certain hours. Most of the time they have long wait times. I decided to return this after researching online that this is a common problem. Great fun for 1 day, kinda dangerous when you lose Braking. Buyer beware.

I Have Bought THREE of Them! A Review One Year Later
The title is no lie, since I impulse bought mine with Biden Bucks last year, two of my family and friends have wanted one so they got theirs through me. We all have the pro model. This thing is so fun to take out on our roads and just drift and spin like crazy. I'm 6ft 190 and with it fully extended its a little tight and my knees definitely touch the steering wheel, but its really not a huge deal. Ill go over pros and cons. Pros: Super Fun, 23mph feels MUCH faster especially with the crazy acceleration these have. If the tires are fresh, the turning is very responsive and you can make a turn on a dime. There's 4 speed modes if you have little kids or someone who is just learning.(But i never use anything but the fastest) There's a companion app where you change the modes, lights, and other settings. There's a drift slider where you can pick between understeer and full on drifting. Its just a Go kart kit on top of the Segway S Max, it also comes with the Knee bar so if you want to use it as a commuter, you can just take the S Max out of the back and put on the knee bar and boom, instant urban transport. There's potential upgradability in the future! If Segway/Ninebot comes out with a S Max+ or Pro or whatever they call it, you can just swap it into the go kart frame and have a whole new go kart! The build quality is amazing, there's rubber bumpers on the front and sides, a strong frame and adjustable length, the Allen wrench for adjusting it comes on the kart itself in a little slot on the side. Cons: The other review about the tires being bad, is partially true. depending on how you use it and what road surface its on, the tires can wear really fast. The review said in under 2 weeks they were already getting a torn up tire. They must have been going HARD to shred the tires like that. If you don't drift they should last a long time. If you only go crazy with the drifting all the time, the tires wear very fast. And its true they aren't sold on Ninebot's website(almost nothing is available on their site), but they are on Aliexpress, which is where i have been getting mine, the rear ones are about $53 each at the time of writing this, pretty pricey for how fast they wear out. The front ones are about $48 each. The shipping time is quite long If you drift a lot, the battery really isn't all that great. It runs out super fast if you drift hard and weigh closer to the weight limit of the kart. Its because when drifting there's so much resistance to the motor. If you just cruise, the battery actually is pretty decent. We have had ours for over a year and i've noticed a little bit of battery degradation but not a whole lot. There seems to be QC issues with the hand brake, the welds on mine were a little wonky and caused it not contact the tire. I contacted support and they asked for a ton of info including pics. Support was helpful, but I ended up solving the issue myself by bending it into place. All in all, this is an amazing toy, Everyone we drive by stares at us, they always say it looks so fun. Some have stopped me in the middle of the street wanting to know what these are and where to get them. If you have the extra spending money, its SO worth it!

Coolest Go-Kart I've ever seen!
I bought this for my girls' 10th bday and it has not had a break for the past 4 days. I love that you can adjust the size depending on how tall the person is. However, I wish there was a quick-release latch of some kind making it easier to change but the 4 (magnetic) screws aren't a big deal to losen it up to adjust to someones height. I'm 5'6' 165lbs and it goes as fast as I would like to go on something this small. The downfall is it's so quiet cars can't hear you coming so you have to be careful. It was a pain to get working, mostly because I hate reading instructions, but once it was up and going this has been a blast to ride. It picks up speed super fast and the steering is tight which makes pulling the skid brake fun. I haven't figured out why it won't "charge" while in go-kart mode so I have to disconnect the cable and plug it directly into the segway scooter. The neighbors have been coming out of nowhere wanting to ride this which has been fun, but kinda stressful too. I would def recommend this to anyone looking to spend $1,300 or less. It's a bit pricing but well worth it.

Now these can go 24 mph!!
Update #2: 3 years later, these still work great!! They’re still a blast to drive as well. We recently got a Tesla, and it’s a similar experience. Update:: My karts minipros are still working perfectly as new, and we love them. But it’s worth mentioning that Segway just started a Kickstarter campaign (as of 1-20-21) for the new Ninebot X max. This is the newest Segway, and it is different that the max or any other Ninebot. It has a 24 mph top speed when paired with the gokart, or the gokart pro, it has a 12.5 mph top speed as a stand on Segway. It will transform these original karts in to the newest fastest karts on the market. It’s nice that you only have to upgrade the Segway part and mot the whole kart to get the extra speed. They don’t come cheap, but they are an option if you need to go faster, and who doesn’t!! —————————————— assembly and setup: Ninebot includes a tool for removing the knee bar from the ninebot S and the Minipro. its very simple and quick to use. It’s basically a clamp that turns in to a press and it presses the knee bar out similarly to a wheel bearing press. I’ll include a video later. My minipro did have the beeping issue when pairing to the go kart kit. It required a firmware update, and hard reboot to make that stop. Here are the steps from Ninebot, for this. HOW TO FIX BEEPING: “ Power off the miniPRO · If the GoKart does not power off, remove the batteries from the steering column · Disconnect the cables between the GoKart and miniPRO · Remove the miniPRO from the GoKart · Set the miniPRO upside down so the standing platform is level but opposite of the normal position · Keep hair, long clothing, jewelry clear of the wheels · Press the power button on · The wheels will rotate about 1/4 turn in alternating directions · Press the power button off · Set the miniPRO right side up · Power on the miniPRO · Connect the miniPRO to the app · Clear the cache (App > "Me" > "Settings" > "Clear Cache") · Check for any firmware updates, install as instructed (App > Tap the Gear Icon at top right > tap "Firmware Updates") · Try to download the tutorial again, even if you already did before (Clearing the cache will often clear the tutorial downloads) · *** Make sure it is in GoKart mode. (If you have the GoKart Firmware update installed, you will find this setting by opening the App > Tap the gear icon in the upper right side > Tap the GoKart Mode icon > slide the slider to the right) · Power off the miniPRO · Reboot your phone · Reinstall the miniPRO to the GoKart, making sure the straps and the cable are securely fastened. · Power on the miniPRO. If you do not see a blue light on the steering column, replace the 6x AA batteries with fresh batteries. ” Now open the app, and select the minipro. Go in to settings in the app, and turn on the GoKart option. Now you should be all set to go through the tutorial, and start GoKarting. So far I’m giving this kit 4 stars. It’s function is awesome, and 5 stars all the way. But a few technical difficulties getting started, can be frustrating, and so I’m taking a star off for that. I’ll update this review after more use, but initially, I’ll proclaim these carts are awesome. I bought two from Amazon during the Black Friday sale. I got them for my 12 year old, and my 6 year old. My 12 year old did not really ask for anything specifically, but my 6 year old was very specific. He wanted a go cart and the big bucket of cheese balls. They are similar to cheese puffs. Well how do you say no to that. So I figured a toy like this would not be fun alone. This type of activity is a social thing. It might have been better to convince a neighbor to buy his kid one, rather than buy two, but what ever, I guess. So I bought two. I did not think my 13 year old would have much interest in this type of thing. He’s in to basketball, video games, and hanging out with buddies. So I left him out. Big mistake. He was a huge fan of the carts. So I’ll be acquiring a third one for a birthday. But remember that whole social thing, 3 really is better in this situation. It does not hurt that our neighborhood has 8 foot sidewalks throughout, and there is a closed course area at a nearby business, that is closed on weekends. It resembles an F1 track, and it’s a ton of fun to ride over there. Back to my six year old. Upon receiving his gift, he sort of looked stunned. His momma asked what he thought, and he said,”I can’t put in to words how happy I am.” It was a pretty profound statement from a 6 year old child, and our hearts swelled with joy. It’s that type of experience every parent craves, when giving a gift. Some toys are just plastic fillers, because we know we need to give a gift. This toy is something that our children can experience together, outside, while having a blast. I have donated lots of unused toys, that our kids play with one time and forget about. I have thrown out or recycled even more that were badly designed and broke quickly. This toy is well designed and constructed. It’s fit and finish are solid, if you follow the difficult to follow, and lacking, instructions. After the start up glitches, these carts functions perfectly. They do not require attachment to a phone, beyond initial setup. But phone attachment offers additional features, and functions. I set both carts up, with one iPhone. But these must be done one at a time. After setup is complete, you can simply power on the attached Segway minipro, or ninebot S, and go. You don’t have to select gokart mode in app each time or anything. I worried that I might have to set each cart up on a separate device, and those devices must be present anytime we want to operate the carts. That is not the case. My kids can go out the garage and start up the carts, independently, with no iPhone present. There are a few ways to manually disable the carts making them very difficult for the uninitiated, to be able to use. One would be, to remove the connector extension cable and put it in a secure location. It would be very difficult to use the cart with out that. I have personally ridden these, and even as a 6 foot 225 lb adult male, the carts are fast and fun. The tires grip the road, as you would expect from a race car, and they handle like they are on rails. The Segways operate virtually silently, with just a gentle hum. It’s a really cool experience. The carts have no suspension, but the pneumatic tires give the carts a fairly smooth ride. Other neighborhood kids were out using their new toys, and none appeared to have the ride, or drive capabilities, of these well engineered carts. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for. I hope all future Segway/nineBot transporters have gokart mode, and hopefully distance and speed upgrades will come with those. The new ninebot S pro is faster and has double the range. If that works with these carts, that would be awesome. Though I suspect the added speed comes from the 11 inch tires on the S pro, versus the 10 inch tires on the minipro/nineBot S. Those upgrades are currently available to the MP, and the S. I’ll be doing that when we wear out the current tires. I really want to upgrade these carts to 5 stars, because after the initial setup headache, the experience is fantastic. But I think I’ll leave it, because the star rating is for buyers, and they need to know the first part of their experience is going to be a bit of a struggle. I was able to get right through to tech support, and I was able to fairly quickly solve my problem. I hope that’s the case for each of you, though if you follow my instructions above, you may not even need to call. This review is too long, so I’ll end it here. I hope you love your cart as much as my family loves ours! Please note, I paid the full sale price available to any amazon shopper at my time of purchase. I was not incentivized in any way for my review. My words are based on my experience, and expectations with and for this product.

UPDATED: Now we're talking! (assembly tips included below)
Like someone mentioned above, you need the MiniPro for this. It wasn't super clear to me when I ordered it (the hazards of online shopping), so I had to order the minipro once I found out. The first Segway showed up DOA, so I'll review the kart when it's working. UPDATE 1/6/2018: The second Segway arrived with power, unlike the first one. The instructions for the kart assembly are over-complicated and somewhat confusing. I'm convinced that 90% of manufacturers never give their products and instructions to someone who's never seen either before, so they can watch the process unfold right before them, then go and fix their lousy instructions. The irony is that IKEA instructions is all they needed here, but you get a lot more than that. In any case, here are a few tips. 1. Update the firmware on your app. Even if you already did, check it again. I thought my firmware was up to date since I'd just updated it a couple days earlier, but something about the Segway being attached to the Kart or them being in the same room together makes more updates available. And even when you think you're done updating, you probably aren't. After I assembled the kart and powered up, the app showed the Segway instead of the Kart, and it told me there was a firmware update. I updated the app and figured we were done with updates. But we weren't. After assembling the Kart and powering it up the first time, the red light on the steering column was flashing and loud beeps were going off, five short ones and seven long ones, and there was no power to the accelerator. This is not good. To make a long story short, I detached the Segway and removed it from the Kart, checked the firmware for the Segway itself, and sure enough, there were three new updates. After running those, the red light and beeps went away and we had power. 2. Assembly goes like this. Remove the steering mechanism from the Segway. There's a quick release at the bottom. Just undo the quick release and pull the steering bar off. Then remove the red steering bar holder by removing the two hex screws. It's pretty snug so you might have to wiggle it a bit. The Kart came with a box complete with brackets, screws, one wrench and this odd little metal part with two prongs that came with the kart DON'T GO ANYWHERE ON IT. They are actually only used if you can't pull the Segway steering bar holder off. You create this makeshift removal tool with them. I missed that part of the instructions and sat there wondering for a while why I had all these extra parts. The screws for the seat extension are already in the extension bars and they can't come out. The screws in the box are only for the extraction tool you probably won't need. There is a plastic part that goes over the top of the Segway base, strapped under the kart. Unstrap the straps and put the plastic piece the only way it can go on the Segway base. Put the base under the Kart with the power button facing you. Here's the real fun part. The two power cords are just long enough to find each other and attach. They attach on the outside of the power cover, not behind it. If you use reading glasses, you're going to need them. Take a couple breaths then try your best to line up the power cords. If either one was about an 1/8 of an inch longer, this would be easy. But they're not and so you'll feel like you're going to pull one of the cords out in the process. The fact that you have to repeatedly separate these in order to charge the Segway or remove it is a concern. They are not going to last. Adjust the steering column and the seat. The seat is easy. The four screws I mentioned that are already in the adjusting bars just need to line up with the position holes (tighten these down good. After our trial runs, they were all loose). The steering column is odd. The Kart comes with a quick release but it's not what you think, it's not like a quick release on a bike seat or scooter handle where you pop the release bar, move whatever it was holding, then lock it back down. It doesn't release anything, it just makes it easier to tighten the nut that holds the steering column in position. When you want to adjust the steering column for someone taller or shorter, you have to remove the entire "quick" release, move the column, then put the release screw and latch back in. And they are not willing participants in the process. Put your reading glasses back on, then open the battery compartment on the steering column. Look closely... the images of the battery are white and, you guessed it, so is the plastic holder. They're hard to see at first, but they indicate which direction the batteries on the bottom and top go. Push the power button, connect your app, then follow the training instructions. If you get the red light and beeps, see above re the firmware. The training is basically going forward once, then backward and you're done. Take it outside and run it at the lower or middle speed. You'll need to have your phone with you for two reasons. First, after you go something like 1,000 meters, you can enable the top speed on the app. You have to be stopped completely to do this. The other reason you'll need your phone is because, after taking this thing for a good spin, you're going to want to order another one.

It's worth it if you want a toy.
So I have probably put 50-60 miles already since having it for 5 days now. I can definitely give a fair review based on the amount of Segway Ninebots we have. Pros: Acceleration is amazing. Length is definitely not comfortable at 6ft plus but more like 5-8 5-9 range and 175. I'm 5'4" and 160s...so if I'm saying it's tight...its tight. Easy handling at tight short turns as expected for a go-kart. On the street, once you hit max speed, it gets TOUCHY. I mean small movements make large changes in your direction. Drifting is ok. I like it at shopping parking lots or any open parking lots like parks and schools. Open road is iffy on comfort and traction/turns Cons: Not meant for long uses. I ride it hard at track speed and get MAYBE a solid hour of straight riding on a parking lot. I've ran out of juice going 6 miles on track speed and needed a ride home (1 1/2 miles away) Overall all its a 9/10 for me. Absolutely fun and everything you wanted as a kid. There's plenty of YouTube reviews and have great insights on what to expect before dropping $2k...also I dropped the $2k 5 days before it was $1800 🙄🙄🙄
