Following the phenomenal success of By Any Means Wicklow to Sydney, Charley Boorman is back with a brand new adventure.Last year Charley set off from his childhood home in Ireland and made his way across the globe, using over 100 different forms of transport before successfully finishing the expedition in Sydney, Australia. From Sydney to Tokyo By Any Means follows the adventurer extraordinaire as he rides, rows and flies his way 9, 500 miles north from his last stop in Sydney up the Pacific Rim to Japan's capital, Tokyo. Using quad bikes, hovercrafts, wooden scooters, canoes, para-gliders and of course his favourite mode of transport - motorbike - Charley travels across vibrant cities, treacherous seas and impenetrable jungle and experiences some of the world’s most stunning and diverse countries and cultures. Along the way he encounters fascinating people in some of the most isolated communities. He meets and makes friends with everyone from surfer dudes in Australia to Tribal leaders in Papua New Guinea and learns of the history, religions and ways of life of the local people he is with.Encapsulating some truly awe-inspiring experiences, From Sydney to Tokyo By Any Means DVD is packed with adventure, motorbikes and Charley's enthusiasm for the world and its people.

Charlie with Claudio - a great team!
Now that self indulgent Producer Russ Malkin out of the 'shoot', we can focus on amiable Charlie Boorman and his trusty camera man Claudio. This is much much better than the previous 'By Any Means', which I stopped watching after x 2 episodes. Charlie has found his stride in this trip and he takes us on a fun mad cap ride!!

Charley Boorman Sydney to Tokyo (By Any Means)
Having watched Ewan & Charley's 'Long Way Round' and 'Long Way Down'; and also Charley's 'Race to Dakar' and 'By Any Means (to Sydney)' I have to say that this latest offering from Charley is absolutely stunning compared to the aforementioned offerings. This time around there is less of the "ME"-factor from Charley and more of the "Hey folks, look, I'm using all the means of transport available but that's not really important, look at the countries I'm traveling through and the cultures I'm experiencing."All in all this is a very entertaining, fascinating and informative production, making one realise that the Australia and the Pacific Rim Archipelago has more to it than it would seem at first. Also, the odd quirky or amazing means of transport pops up here and there, plus some super customizing of cars and bikes is shown. My only gripe is that perhaps a bit more of Claudio could be featured as he appears to be a charming person with a screen personality of his own (but then it wouldn't be Charley's film, would it?)But that aside, I will heartily recommend this production to anyone that wishes to experience a bit of the Pacific Rim area vicariously - you will not be disappointed. (I would also recommend the other items mentioned if they are not already a part of your collection - but I guess I'm preaching to the converted.)

Really good fun in a laddish sort of way as Boorman ...
Really good fun in a laddish sort of way as Boorman travels a part of the world largely untouched by other travel programmes. There are enough motorcycles and scooters to satisfy the bikers who follow his career, along with all sorts of alternatives. The places visited are interesting and varied, the voice over and editing keeps everything interesting.

Highly recommended
This is the very enjoyable, combination of travel and adventure, an interesting if brief insight into the people, culture and landscape of the countries Charlie and Co are experiencing. It's also diverse enough to allow for multiple viewings.

Charley Boorman is great and what he shows here is amazing
Charley Boorman is great and what he shows here is amazing. Sadly DVD looks like cheap edition. There is nothing more (no other languages, no subtitles at all). That makes me sad. Great show, poor edition.
