Q: Do you need rtv or is the gasket good enough?

I added gasket glue to the gasket on both sides ,have no leaks.

Q: Is this kit for the 2004 nissan xterra xe with the vg33de motor?

Yes this "Timing Belt Water Pump Kit", fits all vg33 motors from 1996-2004. The only problem with this kit is the marks on the timing belt, or should I say, the lack of marks. I just counted the teeth and put my own white marks where they should be.
