Making Contact with the Other Side
The main reason I purchased this book, at this time, is because my best friend and companion of 20 years passed away, and I wanted to explore and expand my repertoire of techniques for making contact with the other side. James mentions one of the easiest and perhaps most popular methods of contacting the other side, by asking them to appear in your dreams, and asking for some sign. While these methods definitely work, knowing that we are constantly manifesting in our experience that which we think about, these methods always leave me wondering if it's my consciousness that created the phenomena or is it really the spirit of the dearly departed. Our consciousness always manifests in some way in our experience and what you think about is bound to manifest in your outer experience in some way. You'll be attracting or subconsciously creating circumstances that resonate whatever it is that you keep on thinking and feeling. What you think about a lot is also bound to manifest, sooner or later through your dreams. Since my best friend departed, I have experienced all kinds of phenomena and what some would call coincidences related to my friend, but as much as I'd love to think that they are a sign of my dearly departed friend, frankly speaking, I don't really know for sure if and to what extent such events might have been created by the spirit of my friend, and to what extent are they manifestation of my own consciousness.Throughout the book, the author appropriately shares the worldview that everything is made out of energy and consciousness. Near the end of the book, he also shares the fact that our thoughts are immensely powerful and James points out how the greatest regret of most spirits was that they didn't know it, that no one told them that they can make whatever they want out of their lives using the power of their mind. I found that last part of the book, the most useful and practical for the readers, as they may get inspired to look upon their own lives and into their hearts and choose to live their lives in a way that is truly meaningful for them, while they still have a chance to do so.From that practical side, the author shares a few grounding meditation and meditation for protection and/or for raising your vibration as well as clearing the space energetically. While these techniques are not new, I still consider their mention useful in this book, even as a reminder that it is important taking care of one's energy and the energy of the spaces we live in.Since this is a book about ghosts among us, James also shares several stories, which you may enjoy reading or you may say that there's nothing new there. And now regardless even of the uncertainty regarding what signs we get may be from our dearly departed and what may be the product of our own consciousness, I have found reading these kinds of books somehow healing, therapeutic and soothing while adjusting to the fact that my best friend has left the physical body I got so used to see each day.

Best book on this subject - has most answers
This is the absolute best book about ghosts and what happens to us after we are dead. Here's some of the things that I learned from the book:(1) When we die, our spirit comes out of our body and we retain all of our memories. In spirit-form, we are exactly the same person only without a body.(2) We in spirit-form choose to either hover around and watch our funerals or go to the light. At death, everyone has either friends, deceased family members, or a spirit guide meet us.(3) In spirit-form, you can think of a place and immediately be there. This includes another planet.(4) In spirit-form, you can go to all of the same places you did before you died. For example, you can go to your church and sit in the pews. While your ghost is sitting in the pew, there may be a wedding going on in our reality, but you in spirit-form will only see the sermon from before you died.(5) In spirit-form you will appear in what ever clothing you want, just from thought.(6) Your dead relatives can pop in and out of your home, bathroom, work-place, etc whenever they want and see what you're doing.(7) Dead people read minds. If you think of a dead relative, that dead relative will know it and may come to you if they want. Dead people can read minds so whatever you're thinking about them, they will know it. Example: if you want to know if your dead grandma is OK with you selling her house, you can ask her to give you a sign that it's OK by asking her out loud or just thinking the question. You may have to wait a couple of days but eventually you should see her "OK sign". The example in the book was a license plate that had the dead person's initials and ended in OK.(8) Your dead relatives can try to contact you by making an object appear somewhere. Example, if your dead son was a rock collector when he was alive, then he could move a rock and place it in your bathroom under a towel. Obviously there wouldn't be a rock in your bathroom normally so when you pick up the towel and see the rock drop to the floor, you should realize that your dead son is telling you he's OK. The rock doesn't just float through your house, it would appear instantaneously. These are samples of the good information in this book. I recommend it highly. One more bit of info - Lucille Ball's spirit still visits the studio where she made the Lucille Ball TV show. In spirit-form she told James that she visits the studio because she was always very happy there doing what she loved.

Thank you James Van Praagh!
This book changed my life forever. Immediately after reading I purchased several copies for friends and clients but never took the time to write a review. I actually stumbled across it again when I saw James Van Praagh listed as a guest speaker on Davidji's Hay House radio broadcast.Since I was a child I have had a strong connection to the spirit world. Some of my experiences were very dark and misunderstood they had me constantly on guard and many times afraid. After reading Ghosts Among Us I have a much better understanding of the spirit world and can say in the 2 1/2 years since reading it I haven't had a single negative experience with "ghosts". But I had no idea, at the time of reading this book, that one of the spirits among me would be the man I was so deeply in love with. My better understanding of the spirit world (because of this book) is how I have been able to deal with his suicide. I have a much better understanding of his strong presence. On the day they took Ian's body from the garage where he took his own life, I was able to feel such a sense of peace knowing he isn't gone, only his body is dead. And the little things he does, letting me know he's around are unexplainable to most, but I get it! 😊Thank you James Van Praagh! I look forward to crossing paths, maybe I will be fortunate enough to see you live. sometime.

Cleverly written!
Cleverly written, a bit over the top in some places, but I enjoy it.Very informative in a good style, but I cannot comment about his believes, although many things he describes are real, so its up to you, the reader!

Ghosts among us.
Not good. I normally like books like this, but this one strayed away from the main title. I got bored before the 4th chapter. I stuck with it but not as good as some I have read.
