a fine rice
OMG. As a lifelong rice lover, I wanted to try an actual Indian grown basmati. The grains are thinner than, an American style rice, so reduce your cooking time by a few minutes. This is a premium grade rice, as it should be, at this price point. Few, if any broken grains with a uniform grain size. I would also recommend rinsing this rice in cold water and use a bamboo steamer. I also use a parchment liner, inside the steamer. Set your timer. I’m old school, no electric rice cookers for me.Once cooked fluff the 3/4” to 1” long cooked grains Bentley with a fork and dug in.

Excellent Brown Basmati Rice from Pride of India
We very much liked the Pride of India Brown Basmati rice that we had previously purchased in the pricey 3lb container that we tried our first time out to see if we even liked the brown basmati. Liked it very much, but we needed to move on to a larger quantity to get a more affordable price per pound. I was very hesitant to buy this 5lb bag because of the jute bag that gave me concern of insects and spoilage as noted in some reviews. And the 10lb purchase is just too much for only 2 people. Thanks to the responses to my posted question about the packaging, I was informed the rice was concealed in a plastic bag within the jute bag, providing decent protection for the product. Upon receipt, I opened it right away to check for insects and potential mustiness/spoilage and am satisfied of the quality of the product received within. I would not recommend keeping it stored in this bag once opened (Not really resealable) and transferred mine to a sealable storage container. The seller/manufacturer should update their website listing reflecting the full nature of the packaging. To be honest I would prefer updated packaging that was either a resealable container like the 3lb tub or and all plastic resealable bag. Either would be fine with me.Having said all that, we really like the Pride of India Brown Basmati the best of the 3 brands we have tried and will continue to buy. We don't really mind the cook time required. We cook a cup at a time using chicken broth/stock and it makes more than enough for more than 2 meals for the two of us. Since the second meal is simply a reheat with a short fix time, the 2 meals preparation kind of balance out.

Not a good batch
This would have been a great value had I been able to use it. But it's rancid. This is the first time I've ever had a problem with rice going rancid.I received this order about 2 months ago and stored it in a cool, dry place while I used up my stock. I opened it tonight to use some, and the smell hit me right off as just not right. I rinsed multiple times as I usually do hoping it would get better. Nope, still the same. So I thought I'd try cooking some still hoping for the best. It smelled faintly of pine sol. Bleh. And as I expected, the rice is not edible. 10 lbs of rice just went into the trash.Maybe I just got some from a bad batch, but I won't ever order this product again based on my experience. I'm going back to my previous brand. It might be a bit more expensive, but it's reliably good.

Great tasting rice
Great taste! It’s hard to find brown basmati anymore in stores so I was happily pleased to find it on Amazon. Will def buy again!

Never disappointed
I have gotten this a few times and it is the same quality each delivery. Easy to prepare. I rinse this first. I then add new water and let soak for at least 15 mins. then rinse again. I do that several times. The process does make the rice less sticky which I prefer. I do not like all the starch on rice. The flavor is good. Never found any objects in container. Seems fresh and clean each purchase.

The first order was GREAT, the second order was disgusting...
When I first discovered this brand of Basmati rice, I was so happy. Tender after being cooked, and very flavorful. HOWEVER, the second 10# bag was a total disaster. There was no flavor, and although the grain would swell, the rice remained firm....kind of like styrofoam. And the flavor...? It really had no flavor, except when opening my mouth a slight taste of 'mustiness' crossed my tongue? I looked, the bag was sealed when I opened it, and there was not insects in the bag....and there was no wetness anywhere. I store my rice in air tight glass jars when I open a 10# bag, so it wasn't my storage problem. I don't know where this musty flavor came from....but I'm throwing the entire bag in the trash. This is sad. The wasted money I can deal with, but the wasted rice is much harder to deal with.
