I used to live in Kerala and had this kind of rice every day with my lunch. It's only recently I realized you can even get it in the UK, and I'm seriously pleased.I'm diabetic so most forms of rice are out of the question as they make my blood sugar spike more than eating the equivalent volume of sticky sweet chocolate cake, but rose matta rice is very low gi, so it's fine as part of a diabetic diet. Yay, I can eat rice again without screwing up my diet!It's also seriously tasty, better than any other kind of rice in my opinion, and versatile.Buying rose matta in small bags is absurdly expensive, but it represents good value in this volume - just need to find enough space in the pantry to store it, because you'll be eating it for a-g-e-s.
