An Easy Solution
I got this for my 88 year old mom who is hard of hearing and whose apartment has no doorbell. I installed the batteries (not included) in both parts (the button & the box). The box (lights up and makes the sound) has an easily accessible battery compartment. The button (the doorbell you put outside for people to ring) has a battery compartment that has to be pried off with a small screwdriver.Cons: the difficult to open battery compartment on the button; I did not use the adhesive that comes with to mount the button as that would make future battery changes very difficult! Instead I attached a ribbon and hung the button on the door post. There is a wide variety of tunes to select from but one must press the button, listen, press again to hear the next one, and if you go past the one you want you have to go all the way around again, there’s no way to go directly to number 13 except to go on thru all 16 and then start over again. But since mom said they all sounded the same to her (they don’t, I enjoyed the game of name that tune), I simply removed the batteries to reset it and left it on choice number 1.Pros: mom can hear it & see it & it’s easily portable so she can take it to the bedroom or kitchen or livingroom.A couple of times it didn’t work and the person had to knock, but mom figured they hadn’t pushed the button in the right spot.I think for the price it’s a very good deal and an easy problem solver!

Finally! Yessss!!!! Love it!
I love this gadget. I live in an RV and have nothing hardwired.I'd tried others before but my place has plugs in strange places and no lights were bright enough. This is portable. It's awesome. The signal reaches every room in my RV. Frankly it's very bright and with so many colors, it's easy to see from another room if placed in a central location. Seeing all the various colors flashing together ensures that you'll see it.It is loud (I don't use the sound though as I having hearing loss). You can change the different tones/music to whatever you'd like. The "included battery" for the transmitter wasn't included, however. But I already had a battery at hand. This is much smaller than I expected, but I soon realized it was perfect because it's not huge enough to interfere with decoration and as I said, I can take it into the bedroom with me at night and have it in the living room or kitchen during the day.I am buying more in case something happens to this one.

Cheap construction broke after a week
Update: After a week or so and less than a dozen presses the battery terminals broke off the PCB for the button. DO NOT BUY THIS.The music is audible with good adjustment range and several choices (they don't sound great, but that's what you would expect), the lights flash brightly and it does seem to work reliably. Poor design choices, opening the remote button to put in a battery is enough to damage the plastic. Normal size AA batteries don't fit properly into the receiver, you have to force them in, stretching the plastic. There is no way to mount the receiver somewhere. There are no mounting holes or mechanism and the back is where the buzzer comes out and where you change the batteries so you can't just sticky tape it to something. It meets my meager needs in this case so I'm keeping it. If I had to buy it again I might spend a little more and get something a bit better. Update: Revised my review and added one star because it's grown on me a little bit. It does work pretty well and it's a neat concept. The construction is pretty cheap and there were some poor design choices but overall it's not that bad. Considering what I paid for it it's about what you would expect really.

Does the job - in a FLASH
We are very impressed with the doorbell that we purchased or our 98-year-old mother's apartment. She is very hard of hearing and often didn't hear knocks on the door of her assisted living apartment. The new doorbell mounted easily on the outside door frame with sticky-tape. The ringer itself is about the size of a cell phone. We set it up inside on a small easel on top of a cabinet in her living room, near the TV where she was bound to see it.When rung, the outside doorbell flashes in multi-colors. The ringer inside also flashes for a few seconds in multi-colors. There are many different rings (tunes) available to choose from. They are all loud and rather piercing to hear. There is also a regular "ding-dong" doorbell sound.I gave a "3" to the volume control because I do't remember seeing an adjustment for that. However, as I said, all of the optional sounds are very loud.I think this is a great value for the relatively low price.
