Teaching Children with Down Syndrome about Their Bodies, Boundaries, and Sexuality (Topics in Down Syndrome)

Should be on the shelf of every clinician that works with DD population and of every parent who has a child with special needs
I was lucky enough to get to take a 2 day workshop with Terri. I work with the DD population and it was incredibly educating and eye opening. I bought this book and recommend it to all of my colleagues, interns, parents, etc. It says Down Syndrome in the title, but it really is for any DD population and I have actually found fantastic information in it that has helped me with my own kids! I honestly cannot recommend this book enough. It can be used by parents/educators of young kids (pre-k) all the way up to post-vocational age kids.

Excellent!
I'm a psychologyst currently working with children and adults with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities, and I was in need of general information about sexuality because this is one of the most common worries for parents, teachers and caretakers. This book is great, not only it offers general information, but tips, strategies and drawings about everything a parent or caretaker should know (teaching adequate behaviors, menstruation, masturbation, relationships, etc.). And I love the idea of "parental pauses", a moment for parents to question themselves about what they think/feel about a certain subject BEFORE trying to teach it to the child, so they can share the information more effectively.I really recommend this book!

Wonderful to find information
Thank you for making it so easy for me to get the information I need to be the best parent I can be to my daughter who was born 15 years ago with Down Syndrome. Sometimes it feels like we are in a boat with no oars. When I find books like this that actually give me some insight it makes all the difference in the world. And right here on Amazon, I don't have to go out searching and searching. This book is very easy to navigate and find the info I need help with. Just another way to approach things helps tremendously.Thank you

Helpful Tool for Parents of Adolescents with Down syndrome
My 16-year-old with Down syndrome has decided she wants to marry her boyfriend, who is 18. We've told her she has to wait until she grows up (maybe 25 or so), but I appreciate this book and all the information it has about setting boundaries, preparing for marriage (do they understand what it means?), and learning how to be responsible for their own bodies by knowing their privacy areas. I would recommend this for any parent (or professional) who works with adolescents and young adults with Down syndrome!

Review of above book
Teaching Children with Down Syndrome about Their Bodies, Boundaries, and Sexuality (Topics in Down Syndrome) Great book, very informative. I am using this to assist children with autism as the olanguage is appropriate, the examples easily modify and the pictures are just what we need. Other collegues are also impressed with the book. Good work guys.

Well written useful book
As a professional working with young people with Down Syndrome it's great to find a sensible informative book that I can use in my work but also suggest to parents that they buy it. This is a book that can be dipped in and out of when needed. It covers topics in a practical way and gives useable suggestions to help deal with common (and sometimes difficult) issues that may arise.I especially like the use of social stories and pictures in supporting people to develop skills and and this book uses both.

A resource for parents and teachers
I picked this book out as a resource for teaching students about personal health, hygiene and boundaries. It contains great information, but another book I bought at the same time contained more practical, social story-like content that one could easily use to create stories for teaching children the proper social rules. The reason I didn't rate this higher is, because I was looking for a book that had some practical implementation ideas for the information.
