Night Visions: Searching the Shadows of Advent and Christmas

My centering prayer group focused on this book during this past Advent season. It’s a wonderful combination of artwork, poetry, and reflections that brought a new perspective to Advent.

Jan Richardson and her writings are a wonderful addition to personal quiet and reflection time as well as use with a group. I don’t know how I ever missed this treasure which was copyrighted in the late 90s!I like her poetic style and storytelling skills. Check out her other titles! This is one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. I read it slowly, savoring the words, which were written with such honesty and love. I am a spiritual person, not a practicing Christian, but it mattered not to me. This book is for anyone who wants to connect to his/her soul and spirituality. I plan on reading this book over and over and not just during Advent. It will be on my bedside table for a very long time. Thank you, Jan L. Richardson for your beautiful words.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. This sweet, artistic Advent book welcomes me to a space of preparation, celebration, reflection, and action. I want to skip ahead and ready everything, but I'm using restraint and savoring each week as the advent season progresses. This is a perfect advent guide for those who enjoy reflection and self-awareness. Next year, I'll invite those near-and-dear to me to join me in a repeat of this literary adventure. I highly recommend this book to those who desire an artistic invitation to this special time of the Christian year.

Originally gifted to me by a friend, several years later I inadvertently left it in the seat back pocket on the plane, purchased another copy, and later another copy for my intuitively aware massage therapist. I've walked through the season several times over the years with Jan Richardson and a friend, as we enjoy sharing the insights that Jan triggers in us with this beautifully illustrated and communicated walk. During other years, I've meditated alone with Night Visions. Though the book is 20+ years old, it never gets old. Whether you are a Christian, recovering Christian, ex-Christian, atheist, agnostic, or pantheist, Night Visions is a great companion for December and January.

I loved this book for advent.

Love the visuals and quotes. Will be using these as ideas for our advent study and sanctuary decor to set the mood of expectation and comfort that cones with GOd's everlasting love.

I want to give this to all my family and friends this year! Gorgeous artwork that accompanies honest, deep, graceful poetry and reflection. I needed this. You do too.
