Pretty good
Not as many locations as I had hoped, but heck how many can I go to at once? Like following a map to a secret treasure!

Review of 2nd edition Kindle version. I like the companionable prose of the author, but find the maps and navigation to be worthless. No lat/long coordinates are listed, maps aren't close to scale and distance measurements appear to be off or based on roadways that no longer exist.I decided to start out of Burro Creek Campground and try to follow directions to nearby sites starting with Site 54, Burrow Creek Bridge patterned Jasper. The author claims that he visited the site 40 years earlier in a jeep with a fellow rockhound, but I must question his recollection. The narrative and associated map imply that Sugarloaf Mtn is a small distance north of the Burrow Creek bridge which is accessible by jeep or foot. There is no jeep road, unless you can manage to travel up Burrow Creek when it's dry. Traveling by foot more than twice the specified distance passes nothing that even looks like it could be termed Sugar Loaf Mtn. The only Sugar Loaf mountain I could find in AZ is located 63 miles away at a bearing of 160 TN from the Burro Creek Bridge.I then looked at the description for site 55 "Dendritic opal at burro creek" and only the distances labeled for the major roadways appear to have any basis in reality. There is no way that Burro Creek is only about 7 miles away from AZ97 as indicated on the author's "map".My bottom line take is that I question the author's recollection of where anything is located and how to get to it. On the plus side, anyone attempting to follow the author's navigation is likely to get just as lost as you are, which reduces the chance that any of the mentioned sites will ever be found. This is AZ, so you're certain to find interesting geology and minerals, but it's unlikely you'll find anything the author attempts to convey the location of.Before attempting to follow the author's maps, please make sure you have excellent up to date maps and good navigation skills.

Arizona Rockhounding
A very informative book of Arizona's rock treasures. I like that a story of the area is added for historical input.

Love these books. The author's first hand research is obvious. :)
I love these books. I have purchased several others for Nevada and Oregon. They take you to beautiful locations for rock hounding treasure hunts and they do not disappoint. If you are even moderately interested in beautiful rocks and the great outdoors, these books are the best.
