Close Call
Well, Jane finally sees all of the bad things that could have happened in her past exploits jumping out at her. How does somebody so close to being killed manage to escape? After all of that, all of her worst enemies converge on one spot and she eliminates all but one. We expect her to somehow pull it off, but getting it done is amazing! How Carey puts up with all of this is also amazing. It would seem as if there are only two more of Jane’s adventures left. It would seem, however, that Perry is sidestepping a lot of technology that the bad guys could use to find her and take her out. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see where else she leads us.

One of the best in the Jane Whitefield series
“Poison Flower” is the penultimate chapter in the Jane Whitefield series by Thomas Perry and in my opinion is one of his best stories. Whitefield is a Seneca Indian who specializes in relocating ‘runners’, individuals who are fleeing for their lives with someone on their trail who wants to harm or kill them. She provides them with new identities and the skills they need to stay under the radar while rebuilding their lives and she’s very, very good at it. In previous novels Jane is a formidable force and she is rarely ever in serious jeopardy and always able to outsmart or outfight her opponents. That situation changes in “Poison Flower”. In this story instead of the usual cast of evil, but ultimately inept bad guys, Jane meets her match after busting a man wrongly convicted of murdering his wife out of prison. Three men convincingly posing as cops apprehend Jane (after she is shot in the leg trying to escape) and she’s taken to a remote location and tortured for information about the location of her client. For those fans who have read the previous six Whitefield tales, trust me when I tell you that Jane has never been in such dire straits until now. Of course, she is eventually able to escape and once her client (and another young woman she rescues along the way) are safe she plots her revenge. The remainder of “Poison Flower” chronicles Jane at her best as she ruthlessly takes out multiple henchmen and has a final lethal showdown with their boss who is the real murderer of her client’s wife. This is a must read for devotees of the series or anyone who likes a fast paced thriller with a strong female lead.

Jane at Her Best!
I love Thomas Perry and especially the Jane Whitefield series. This is the most recent book in the series and I have delayed reading it two years because I don't know when the next one is coming out. The read was worth the wait!Once again Jane, is called upon to make someone disappear. This time it is James Shelby, who has been framed by his wife's murder. It is not enough that James has been sentenced to life in prison, his wife's murder wants him dead. Jane stages a daring courthouse rescue. Shelby gets away but Jane is unwittingly captured by those who want to see James dead. Jane has never suffered at the hands of a captor as she does in this novel. There are times when you almost think that she is not going to escape because the circumstances are just that dire. Yet, you can't quite believe that thisis the end for Jane because she ALWAYS comes through. And she does! Despite her injuries, and they are serious, her cunning and resourcefulness are always present. Before all is said and done, Jane assists, James, his sister, and Iris, a woman who has escaped her abusive husband, and insists upon leaving with Jane when they meet in a shelter for abused woman (you have to read the book to appreciate this connection)in disappearing.Jane brings killing to a new level. In the past, she had killed only in self-defense. This time she kills for self preservation and the body count is the highest we have ever seen. The book grabs your attention from the outset and continues. I have to admit that there were a couple of times when I had to put the book down because the excitement/suspense was just a little too intense. But after a few moments, I picked it up again because I had find out what happened next!On the home front, Jane and Carey are trying to have a baby and while there is nothing wrong physically with either one of them, they have yet to conceive. It seems that this last trip has taken something out of Carey and one wonders how many more times can Jane put her life on the line for others before Carey walks away; especially if a child is in the mix.

Jane Whitefield takes on the forces of evil and wins
Thomas Perry has been writing Jane Whitefield stories for s long time. This book reads a lot like a Robert Crais novel, not a bad thing if you like Robert Crais (I do). Still, Jane seems to have a lot in common with Elvis Cole, minus Joe Pike! Without giving any plot spoilers, suffice it to say that Jane undergoes some advanced physical torture, hauls herself out of danger, falls into danger again, hauls herself out again then sets up a plot to eradicate her foes, just like your everyday ordinary superhero. It strains belief a bit to think that a character with as much experience as Jane would make so many glaring errors of judgement, but maybe married life has weakened her ability to focus on the job at hand? This is a good read and fun to see how Jane eliminates all her obstacles, so four stars it is for Thomas Perry.

Publisher's mistake
I bought the paperback edition of "Poison Flower." There is nothing wrong with the body of the book itself but at the end it says "Read on for an excerpt of "The Boyfriend" except it is the first chaper of 'Poison' again and stops in the middle. Amazon should contact the publisher or else check themselves what they are sending out.

Among a handful of authors top of the suspense/ crime-fiction genre
Hi: any novel by Thomas Perry is worth the time and effort to read. The plots are crafted efficiently; his themes ooze suspense; characterization is always complete - and with heroine Jane Whitfield, loads of intrigue; and his writing style grabs you from the first paragraph to the last.

My favourite Jane Whitefield novel
This is part of a series of books about Jane Whitefield who rescues people in danger and gives them new lives. This novel is more gruesome than the others because Jane is captured and tortured before she escapes. Great tension and suspense.
