Awesome book for the Trekkie Foodie!
This book is both an awesome novelty for the hardcore Star Trek fan, as well as a perfectly functional cookbook. Ethan Phillips (as Chef Neelix) provides entertaining descriptions of the various dishes and the characters you have seen enjoying them. There are even personal recipies from the actors themselves, and other cool tidbits from on-set anecdotes to info about the prop dishes used for TV. Not all of the alien dishes are intended to turn out looking exactly like the food props used on the television series, since some of the dishes included inedible (and unpalatable) items. Rather, many are traditional Earth dishes with Star Trek names, while others have been "invented" to simulate the look and live up to the dishes' names given on the different shows. The Star Trek Cookbook even goes the extra mile and includes a recipe for cat food used by Commander Data for his cat Spot! Clearly, much familiarity with the episodes and research was done. However, the recipes for simulating the otherworldly beverages found at Quark's bar are mostly just for looks, rather than taste- they don't even contain alcohol! But there are several real drinks in the book as well. The aesthetic is this cookbook is also well-done. The outer cover is very eye-catching, and the inside nicely combines pinkish-brown monochrome accents with actual b&w photos from the various shows in the Star Trek series, from Captain Kirk to Captain Janeway. The table of contents lists recipes by character and series, starting with Voyager, but otherwise in order. While I have seen some nasty bad reviews of this book on Amazon, those commenters are clearly mean-spirited or mistaken regarding subject matter to which they're referring. As a lifelong Trekkie and avid foodie, I can honestly say that I got a real kick out of this product, and would highly recommend it to, well, just what this review's title says!

Unique, delightful addition to Star Trek collection
I bought this Star Trek Cookbook for my husband. He is a huge Trek fan AND he loves to cook! This is a very unique gift for the Trek fan. It is broken into sections based on the ships (USS Voyager, Enterprise, etc), then it has the favorite recipes of the crew members. There are a lot of actual recipes interspersed with short biographies and stories about the crew members or how a particular recipe came to be. This could be a book that you just read through for the fun of it, or it could be a cookbook that you actually use. I'm not a big Trek fan, but even I get a kick out of looking through this book. It is a delight to read through. I highly recommend it!

I absolutely love my copy of The Star Trek Cookbook by Ethan ...
I absolutely love my copy of The Star Trek Cookbook by Ethan Phillips. Although I have watched all of the Star Trek tv shows and movies, my favorite is Deep Space 9 so I'm really excited about making Tojal in Yamok Sauce and Delavian Chocolates. I can now make and enjoy foods from the Star Trek universe while watching the shows or hosting Star Trek parties for my friends. The recipes are divided by each of the Star Trek series; The Crew of the U.S.S. Voyager, The Crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, The Crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Life on Deep Space 9, Life on Voyager, and The Lost Recipes of Talax. The cookbook also has photos and facts about some of the characters and shows. To me, this is an entertaining book. I didn't pay attention to the negative reviews some people left...to each their own. I absolutely love the Star Trek universe and this book is a great addition to my sci-fi / fantasy collection. A place has already been set aside for it next to my Dining with Doctor (Whovian) and the Unofficial Harry Potter cookbooks.

good read, nicer pics on the inside.
This book has some interesting recipes and is a fun read. I made an adaption to the chili pepper chicken.. but it was super good with quinoa. While the cover of this book could definitely of used a better photo shopper, the images inside are way better then the cover. My only complaints are that there was no hard bound cover. It was printed in black and white, which takes away any possible fun images. It in my opinion makes an official book seem retardant, and overall less appealing as something fun and creative. The instructions are easy if you understand basic cooking in general.. example a pinch of salt is 1/4th tsp. If you have other issues, you might need to look up terms.Release a colored hardback version, or at least scale with the series. I will bump it up to 5*

Great recipes, Narratives, Photos
Fabulous cookbook! I purchased this for a Star Trek Fan for Christmas (He can recite every line from the original Star Trek Television Series). Love the recipes, their names, the photos, and the narratives. Good stuff!

For the Trekky in your life....
My husband is a H-U-G-E Star Trek fan so I bought this as a fun Christmas gift for him. Let's just say it was a massive success!!! He laughed hysterically when he saw it, and then tried a couple of recipes as a joke...only to find out it is a real cookbook. No joke, the recipes are really good! Totally recommend buying this for any Trekky in your life :)

A must have if you enjoy trying new recipes, especially if you love Star Trek.
I love this cookbook. It has real recipes presented it a great way. I'm proud to say I'm a trekkie but the recipes are great for anyone. There's a wide range of flavors presented and they cover main dishes, desserts, light meals, and drinks. There are also dishes that are more vegetarian.
