In comparison with the American DJ Mega Bar and Chauvet DJ COLORstrip mini, the TC-Home 252 LED RGB Wall Washer Bar Light is an extremely affordable lighting option at a third of the cost. This is no doubt appealing to mobile DJs looking to add a little dramatic flair to their setup, which is why I purchased four of them. I personally use them to uplight my DJ booth and speaker stands. The units are a bit bulky and awkward to handle but the light output is pretty good (4 out of 5 stars). The caveat is that you get what you pay for. These units lack the build quality, durability and relative reliability of the American DJ and Chauvet options. Simply put, they are not built for the road and the electronics are iffy. At times entire sections of the LEDs simply do not work. It is not that noticeable when the unit is mounted underneath scrim material, but it is very frustrating. I ordered another unit because one that I owned simply quit working and I needed another right away for a gig. SO I went with the "affordable" option.The units really look nice transitioning from color to color and in certain chase sequences. However, what I found is that these units DO NOT like to be hooked up to a DMX controller. I followed all of the proper instructions, assigning each unit their respective DMX channel prior to daisy chaining them (e.g., 128, 129, 130 and 140), but they would intermittently go haywire and not respond to the signals from the controller. Ultimately they seem to do better in sound activated mode, utilizing the Master/Slave configuration. Again, iffy electronics.Overall, these units get a 2 out of 5 stars from me. Once they start to die, which, based upon my experience so far, is about a year from now, I will replace them with a more reliable product.
