Buy this toilet with Kohler slow close seat then add LumiLux toilet bowl lights - fantastic
Act quickly before this model is regulated/banned by the various state governments. It uses 1.6 gallons per flush. Flush is fantastic and cleans the bowl - every time. Most people are buying the 1 gallon per flush toilet models to help conserve water. Problem is (every parent knows this) the water wise toilets do not flush well - frequently requiring three and four flushes. In addition, you need to keep a plunger and toilet bowl brush close by as there is simply not enough water to do a proper flush. Instead of saving money, sometimes you are left what looks like a "crime scene" and even bigger water bills. I am going through a remodel and this has proven one of the best remodeling investments I have made. New paint, crown moldings, new floors all seem better because of these new toilets. The toilet itself is at comfort height, high quality and super easy to install. The tank within the tank is already installed so you are flushing in less than 30 minutes. Whats it like when you flush? The water in the bowl and contents are gone in less than two seconds. I mean - all gone. Toilet bowl then fills almost immediately. There is additional flush noise but is very acceptable considering you now only flush once. These toilets do NOT use conventional flappers so leaking or constantly running toilets that can and $hundreds to your water bill is history. I installed the Lumilux LED toilet bowl lights to add some color and drama. The lights are motion activated and you have your choice of color. Lights stay on for about 15 seconds or until you turn on the bathroom light. Three AA batteries required and they last up to a year. My favorite color is blue. Guys, this blue light helps improve your aim 100% at night. Helps keep kid's toilet terrors away. when they have to use the toilet at night as the toilet becomes their friend - not the monster they have nightmares about. I changed out three toilets in my house and now each bathroom has the same toilet. My wife was skeptical and my son said he didn't care. Now they both say the benefits are amazing and feel this represents one of the best improvements you can make. Your house guests, women in particular cringe when they have to use their host's bathroom. When they flush and their freshly produced brown buddies will not go away, they are mortified and will flush to infinity until they are finally gone. The Kohler K-3493 solves this particular and embarrassing problem. One flush and the waste is sent to the next zip code. Conversation piece. Amazon shipped them perfectly. Toilets are packed to withstand rough and tumble delivery.

This toilet will flush ANYTHING
I wanted a toilet that would not clog unless I was putting something in there that most definitely should NOT be in there, and on that, this toilet delivers. It's extremely powerful and you can say goodbye to clogs. Performance wise, you have a commercial grade commode that gets rid of your waste with authority. The toilet is designed with efficiency in mind to go along with the pressure, having the biggest trapway I've seen. There are absolutely minimal obstructions for any waste/paper to cling on to. Like I said before, unless you're putting something in that most certainly should not go in there, you should never get a clog. Of course, there might be a problem with the plumbing down the drain line but it's EXTREMELY unlikely the Kohler will be at fault. It looks very nice too, like a premium toilet should (excluding those crazy $1000+ Japanese ultra-fancy models I can't comment on those). As for the packaging, it came in two absolutely huge boxes. These boxes had enough oh-so-environmentally friendly styrofoam packing that it nearly filled my (previously empty) garbage dumpster. I suppose that's the price you pay though, for making sure the fragile porcelain doesn't arrive cracked. I can't comment on ease of installation, as I had my plumber do it. I will say though he had no issues that I could see; it went without a hitch. This toilet is LOUD. Not as loud as the earlier pressure models, but I don't know if I'd want this installed in the master bathroom, unless your SO doesn't mind hearing a loud whoosh when he/she's trying to sleep. YMMV. Only slight problem I had was with the flush bar. It kept coming loose. I adjusted the flush actuator up a bit because I felt it had a bit too much clearance from the bar, it hasn't come loose again after that but I'm keeping an eye on it. Overall I highly recommend this toilet if you are sick and tired of clogs and you want to buy a toilet you can be absolutely SURE won't clog again!

Solution to Flush Lever Problems
I rarely write reviews, but perhaps I can help some other individuals who have purchased the Kohler K-3493, and experienced flush lever problems. I own two of these toilets. The first K-3493 I purchased the flush lever and actuator linkage worked perfectly. I decided to purchase another K-3493 to replace another toilet in my home. When the second K-3493 arrived, the flush lever (aka trip lever) and the actuator linkage were essentially not connected. It was impossible to link the two so that the flush handle would link up with the actuator lever to flush the toilet. Close inspection of the toilet revealed the cause. The Flushmate tank was rotated to the right in the toilet bowl. When viewing the tank from the front, the left-hand side of the Flushmate tank was higher than the left, with an apparent clockwise rotation of the Flushmate tank to the right. This rotation displaced the Flushmate actuator arm away from the lever handle arm causing the lever problem. The toilet tank was disconnected from the toilet base and the outflow gasket was removed. This revealed that the 3 inch nut on the outflow pipe of the Flushmate tank had been cross threaded! Please refer to the attached photo. This nut had been torqued down at the Kohler factory with such force to effectively rotate the Flushmate tank in a clockwise direction. Please note that these are plastic threads which should only be hand tightened. The 3 inch nut had been torqued down with such force that I had to use a large set of channel locks in conjunction with extreme force to loosen the nut. During this process loud audible screeches were heard emanating from the threads on the outlet of the Flushmate tank. I cannot understand how this toilet tank was allowed to leave the Kohler factory with the linkage which would not flush properly, and a toilet tank that was improperly positioned. I contacted Flushmate Customer Service, who promptly shipped out a replacement Flushmate tank. Kudos to Flushmate who deserve a five star rating, and provide great customer service. I received the replacement tank, which was easily installed in the toilet bowl. I hand tightened the threads on the 3 inch nut and just slightly applied the channel locks to complete the job. Again it is beyond reason why anyone at Kohler would torque down the Flushmate tank with such force. Once the replacement tank was installed the OEM actuator linkage coupled to the lever handle arm perfectly. Thus the lever handle problems are a manifestation of an improperly positioned tank rather than a defect in the design of the actuator linkage. The new toilet has now been installed and appears to be working properly. You would think that Kohler Customer Service might have offered to ship out a new toilet tank given the fact that the unit was new, defective, and cost me $474. But no, the women in their Customer Service department apparently expect their customers to replace the innards of their new toilet tanks, which are defective right out of the factory! In terms of function the Kohler K-3493 should receive a five star rating, but the lack of quality control at the Kohler factory coupled by the apparent indifference of their Customer Service department gives them a one star rating at best.

Excellent toilet
We got this toilet for our house and I was worried it would be loud, but honestly it’s totally fine. It’s loud for like 2 seconds and then immediately quiet. I love this toilet. It can handle a lot and we’ve had zero issues with it.

Know this when buying. Important if you need warranty.
I purchased a Kohler 3493-0 through Amazon through Need Direct in July 2019. I received the order and set it aside until I could get bathroom renovations done. So, now we're in March 19, 2020. Upon installation, I realize the Flushmate bladder system inside the 3493-0 tank was put in wonky. Which means the flush assembly arm connected to the Flushmate bladder would not properly attach to the flush handle. Major problems!!! So, I called Kohler. After sending them photos ([email protected]), the installation tech confirmed the bladder was installed wonky and said to call the folks I bought from: NeedDirect. They also said NeedDirect was not an authorized dealer. Wrong. So, I called Need Direct (click the vendor's name at the top of the Amazon page; it will display a phone number) and told them the sad story. They, however, confirmed there were indeed an authorized Kohler dealer under the name: The Distribution Point in Moody, Alabama. They told me to call Kohler back and specifically mention that I bought the toilet from The Distribution Point in Moody and ask for a "warranty letter." As you will see, the toilet itself is still under warranty, even though I waited to install it until renovations were complete. BINGO!!! Called Kohler and, after identifying myself, they asked me to send them the Amazon invoice; I did (they saw it was under warranty). Lickety-split, they sent me a warranty letter, which I then forwarded to Need Direct. Replacement tank is on its way. Word to the wise for those purchasing a K-3493-0. When the tank comes in, look at the installation of the black bladder (see pics). If it is wonky (installed at an angle) you may have problems having the flush arm reach the flush handle. In the first photo, you will see the black water bladder is at an angle in the toilet tank. In the second photo, you will see, hopefully, how that wonky installation makes it very difficult to place the flush arm on the flush handle. Edit: March 21 -- Replacement tank arrived lickety-split. Installed. Holy cow, we have toilet!!! Folks, if you have a flush system like the K-3493-0, check it. It makes a difference. The flush is great. Kinda wonder, though, why the complaints about the loud noise. In my house, I hear more of the water going through the pipes in the cement floor than the flush itself. Give it a shot!!

BEST TOILET EVER
This is the second toilet like this which I've bought. Love the height doesn't cause any knee strain when standing. While Consumer Reports no longer features this toilet, originally back when I bought the first one it was their highest rated for self-cleaning. I hate to clean. I love that it "cleans" by self swooshing that little bit of water in such a powerful way. Someone else's review back in the day said something like "will even flush pets and small children if standing nearby" but its not REALLY *that* powerful... I've owned the original about 5-6 years and still amazed that it does what it does without power or any assistance or repairs. The only similar toilet experience is a once in blue moon experience at some public restroom facility - but that is always using AC or DC power and never is seat height just right. It hasn't needed any maintenance, so I expect the same outstanding performance from this one. My mom is old and disabled... I'm considering getting a third toilet that I'd put in her bathroom... THIS IS THE BEST TOILET EVER (they don't have bold or large font but that was intended for BEST TOILET EVER!!) Sign me, Goldilocks - because this toilet is just right!! PS- this review is for TOILET ... not its included seat... Seat experience will vary based on your size, weight, etc so maybe you love the seat that comes with it or maybe you want wooden or bidet or some other 3rd party toilet seat, I don't know and I don't care because toilet seats can be found anywhere - it is this TOILET that I love !!!!!

Do NOT buy online - "Customer Service" is worse than what you flush down a Kohler toilet
Tbe consensus of many reviews is that Kohler engineers and manufactures a good product, but Kohler customer service is worse than anything you try to flush down a Kohler toilet. As others have noted: it is probably your worst decision to buy a toilet online. You are lucky if it is not damaged in shipping, or - like mine - broken into dozens of pieces. That is not the fault of Kohler. Shipping 105 lbs of porcelain is difficult, no matter how it is packaged. However, a very unhealthy percentage of toilets are irreparably damaged during shipping. Instead of addressing the problem, Kohler hires "customer service" reps who accuse you of causing the damage yourself and explain that their "procedure" is for you to repackage the pieces in the original box and carry it to a UPS office! They give themselves up to 30 days to decide whether to refund your money. There is NO replacement offered. They snicker at the idea of offering you the idea of providing another toilet and seem put out that you want your money back. Amazon is no help. You purchased from The Kohler Store. Talk to them. Of course, to add their own brand of incompetence and add to the level of frustration, Amazon provides only one RMA. No label. This is a two piece toilet. Of course, UPS will only take one box. So you fight your way thru the execrable Amazon phone tree for a fifth or sixth time, explain that their are two boxes even tho it is one toilet and have them grudgingly provide another RMA so you can make another trip to UPS. TAKEAWAY: Unless you enjoy explaining politics to six year old special needs children, or your favorite pastime is giving enemas to zoo animals, DON'T BUY A TOILET ONLINE FROM THE KOHLER STORE!

Great Flush But Needs A Simple Fix
After reading the reviews we knew others had issues with the flush lever, but we decided to take a chance because the toilet otherwise sounded perfect. So we purchased it and cross our fingers! Sure enough the toilet was great, the flush is amazing. Love it! But after a few weeks, don’t you know it…flush lever started to unlatch. Sigh. Really Kohler? The same complaint from numerous buyers over this many years and you still haven’t fixed the problem?? So after a few weeks of taking the tank cover off and re latching the lever, I decided to go back and re-read the solution tips presented here. Thank you to the buyer who suggested the 1/4 inch (bore) Shaft Collar. As a woman, I had no idea what that was or how it worked, but I googled it and found a very handy video. I ordered the Shaft Collar on Amazon. Got the wrong size at 1st. Make sure you get a 1/4 size bore and not width (see my image For the correct one). Finally got the right size and easily put it on myself! Problem solved. Come on Kohler, how hard is it to just install one of these collars on each toilet?! So I took away one star for this, because otherwise this is an excellent toilet. The flush is amazing. Get it, but get yourself a Shaft Collar too! Update: after 4 months we started getting a major leak from the tank whenever we flush. Water was gushing out of the back of tank. We were besides ourselves thinking we had to get a new toilet! But an Amazon customer came to our rescue again! Thank you S. Kulkarni! I posted the issue under questions and they returned a fix: tighten the screws under the tank!. Sure enough they were loose and this quick fix saved us some big headaches. Taking another star away tho for these 2 issues within 4 months!
