Haydn Edition (1

You may not need every CD in this box set but it would cost considerably more to buy a comprehensive selection of individual CDs. From that point alone it's an absolute bargain.But the performances are either white labelled from previously released and highly regarded recordings or performed specifically for this edition and are top notch. I particularly like the Scottish Songs but I was also pleasantly surprised by the string quartets. Yes you'll find better performances if you search but these are consistently good and far, far cheaper

This is an outstanding collection of excellent recordings. Brilliant Classics really serve a treat here. The quality of recordings are superb.Worthy of mention are the complete string quartets by the Buchberger Quartet - a well researched period performance beautifully recorded. A strong feature throughout this set.In particular the complete symphonies by The Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra conducted by Adam Fischer (licensed from Nimbus) are a real delight from start to finish. Again, stunningly recorded and beautifully played. I return to these frequently.The masses and cantatas are very enjoyable as are the Scottish and Welsh songs which provide a quite different style for the listener.The piano and keyboard works are well played and recorded. I am now working my way through the Baryton Trios (none of which I had heard before this purchase) and these are most interesting also.A genius composer is served well by this excellently put together collection of top class players and recordings. A gift to treasure and an absolute bargain.

Amazing amount of wonderful repertoire - shame that booklet notes are only for download, but a lot of CDs for little money!!
