Yes it is just tacked up with a tiny thread on the corners. You could easily snip the threads to pull down the front flap & wear it over a baseball hat brim. They are kind of big, so our toddler wears his over a baseball hat.

Q: My head is big: borderline between xxlarge & xxxlarge. no way this hat will "stretch to fit," right?

It should have some give to it. Mine is the fur lined one. It works well and I have a rather large head as well.
