It is not a direct replacement for a CFL. Requires you to replace the starter in your lamp with a special one for the LED bulb that is provided in the package. Unfortunately, my lamp doesn't have a starter; instead, it comes with an electronic ballast which cannot be replaced. This makes it incompatible with the LED bulb, which turns itself on and off continuously. From the brief time that it is on, I can see that it provides good light, although the bars do not illuminate uniformly like the CFL, but rather you see the individual spots for each LED. Anyway, I have had to remove it and I am back to using CFL. My main complaint, and the reason for the low mark, is that this limitation (not compatible with electronic ballast) was not clearly stated in the advertisement in Amazon. Instead, the page gave the impression that it was a direct replacement for a CFL bulb.
