De CeccoSemolina Pasta, Gemelli No.97, 1 Pound (Pack of 5)

Gemelli pasta are not as easy to find, but this pasta is incredibly versatile. It holds sauces well on its own, but also adds texture to soups. My new go to pasta.

Was able to find on Amazon. Difficult product to find in stores. Super price. Pasta almost like dumplings.

I exclusively use De Cecco pasta. The taste is great and I never time the boiling; it rarely overcooks since it does take some time. I like having the different shapes and the Gemelli has become impossible to find in stores. I think the shape is perfect for use as a side dish, for soups, and sometimes for sauce, although in that case I generally use the De Cecco spaghetti. It's a medium shape twist but more compact than Fusilli. I found 10 boxes on Amazon. However, they should have enclosed more packing as the outer box was damaged and several pasta boxes were partly crushed - but they weren't a gift.

DeCecco is always as good a quality off-the-shelf pasta as you are going to find. They usually sell for $2-4 / lb. This item - as a bulk purchase - should be priced lower. 5 lb order 6 months ago was $4.83/lb. Now it's approaching $6/lb! Not only is this pasta the perfect shape. The Gemelli shape lends itself to so many dishes. I even use it for homemade mac and cheese. It boils to perfection "al dente".....On the money every time. The pasta does not stick whatsoever. I don't know if its brozed pasta, but why pay for bronzed, when this has all the qualities. This shape is not in many of the larger supermkt chains. I usually have to buy it in the speciality shops. Now I buy online for a far better price.

I've started buying all my pasta through Amazon because I can't buy De Cecco locally. The best part is through Amazon it doesn't cost more than national brands at my local grocery stores. It's non-GMO, and has a great texture and flavor. It takes a little longer to cook, but that works since late in life I learned the concept of "sauce the pasta." As in cook the pasta, add it to whatever sauce and then cook both together. The gemelli works great in casseroles, with heavy sauces and makes a fantastic macaroni and cheese!
