Q: Is it balance enough for use as a throwing knife

This knife is not throwing. It's a hunting knife.

Q: Is the pomel hardened as well? Can it shatter glass and take a beatting without fail?

The entire knife, from tip to pommel is linear/lateral heat treated. If you want to test the hardness of any part of the knife, lightly run a file along it. If it scratches it's still soft and not fully hardened. If it doesn't scratch it's hard! Always be aware that many of today's knives are differentially heat treated so the blade is hard but the rest is soft and allows for flex.

Q: How sharp is the knife when you get it?

Um. I bought it a few years ago, but I remember it having a good clean edge on it. Of course you can and should sharpen it yourself often. But I remember be very happy with this blade.
