Bought this and all new lines (gas, water) unit would not stay lit. Tried all troubleshooting, nothing worked, returning as soon as they send shipping label.

The lack of small insect screening means that if left outside the leaves and debris can enter into the internals, unless you cover it. My first one flamed up on the inside because I did not cover it, the wiring burned inside with all the little twigs and dried leaves. The unit shuts itself off after about 10 minutes of run time, I don't know why. Have to flick the on/off switch to get it back to fire state every 10 minutes.The water inlet and outlet are too close together. The unit requires a fairly narrow pressure/flow range, and the flow rate as others have said is about half of the listed around 2gpm. If you have a few hundred more, go with a different manufacturer these are finicky units and the 10 minute auto-shutdown is annoying.

I have yet to install the heater because the enclosed instructions are terrible. There is no mention of the type of venting/exhaust to be installed, no enclosed mounting brackets, unclear explanation of temp. control and no phone number for technical assistance. I will update this review upon completion of install and operation of the unit. Currently I am ponder whether to send it back and move on to another well know brand.

As most people say here, the directions are junk so if you are going to DIY, then make sure you are somewhat familiar with plumbing and gas. If you are, it's incredibly easy to install and fired up right away. The biggest problem is twofold; first, the 16L flow rate is only at its minimum burner temperature, which is not hot at all, about 29°C, which is around 84°F. At full heat, I do get 48°C, which is about 120°F but the flow rate is cut in half. The other issue is if you only want to use a little bit of hot water for hand washing say, the temperature skyrockets as the water is getting essentially backed up in the unit and is scalding hot to 75-80°C. I went ahead and bought two, essentially doubling down on my experiment, but it still didn’t work even after spending a long time, adjusting heat and water flow from the units. Sinks were scolding hot while showers were the right temperature, but had no flow, baths were just pitiful, flow even with two units and that is the problem with these…..There is no flow/heat control that happens automatically. I went ahead and went back to a 50 gallon hot water heater and I love it, if you do this, get the A.O. Smith from Lowe’s and not the Rheem from Home Depot, they have lots of problems. So in essence, great for a single person or two people who won’t take a bath nor will do multiple flows at the same time like in a cabin or very small house. Don’t even attempt this for a normal household with more than one flow at a time.
