Best of the four current expansions
Cosmic Incursion is my favorite of the current expansions available for Cosmic Encounter. In the box you get:1) 20 great new aliens. I don't really want to spoil any surprises, so I won't give away any of the new powers.2) The new Defensive Rewards Deck. The cards in this deck can only be acquired by successfully helping a player defend one of their colonies. There are awesome new types of cards in this deck that can greatly improve your hand, so becoming a defensive ally is more advantageous than before. This is my favorite game variant offered in the expansions, and I really consider it to be essential every time I play.3) In this expansion, you'll also get a new set of orange ships and planets so you can have 6 player games. That's awesome all by itself. But if you don't have six people interested in playing, this won't be as important.4) Other Miscellaneous Tokens. If you want more aliens, 6 player games, and a new deck to make people REALLY want to be a defensive ally, then this expansion is for you. But if you're satisfied with the 50 original aliens, and don't care about 6 player games, then this won't be worth the cost. For me, a new fan of Cosmic Encounter, this is an indispensable expansion to an excellent game.

Solid expansion which adds some better rewards, a great starter expansion to the base game
Great expansion, the new races are fun, having a 6th player is good too. Mostly the best part is the new special rewards deck, these new cards which can be taken when an ally helps defend successfully lets that ally draw a number of cards equal to the number of ships he or she sent to assist. These new cards are easily identified but other players by their dark blue backs - don't let them get stolen! All most all the new cards are above average, several are great even, however there are just a few bad cards as well - can't always be perfect!

No-brainer
The best of all expansions, includes orange player pieces, 20 aliens (and some of the best from the expansions, too) and the rewards deck, which I almost forgot didn't come with the base game. Absolutely essential, get it even if you haven't played the base yet.

Added variety to a great game!
The base game of Cosmic Encounter is a five-star game in itself. The "Cosmic Incursion" expansion set adds a few highly desirable features, a few nice-to-have extras and a few options which may seem indifferent, but enhance the variety of game rules. Most importantly, I consider the accommodation of a sixth player as reason enough to buy this expansion. The base game's limitation of five players may often impose the choice of a different game for the evening. In addition a variety of new alien profiles and of new card sets can be merged freely into the base game while leaving out the undesired options for another day.The skill level of participating players (beginner, intermediate, advanced) will probably have the most influence in choosing the right mix of options for the occasion. In my opinion, here are the primary options offered, in rank of importance:1. the 6th player2. the additional aliens/powers3. the reward deckOn the downside, it seems that many of Cosmic Incursion's features are duplicated by "Cosmic Conflicts", its sibling expansion set.In conclusion, I consider the addition of one of the two above expansion sets as a very useful move for a Cosmic Encounter enthusiast (almost a must in my case), but not necessarily of both.

Yes
Much needed encounter cards and the new mechanics flow perfectly making the game longer as more rewards are for the defenders
