Classic, Refined Scent
British Sterling has a metallic opening with citrus that levels off into sandalwood, musk, amber, and some other fresh notes. I always rated British Sterling just under English Leather and Canoe, but the more I wear it, the more I like it. It definitely has a refined scent and I think would wear best in the fall, winter, or spring although I think one could wear it in the summer too without it being too cloying. Overall, it's a classic 60s fragrance that is worth a sport in your collection!

GOOD OLD STANDBY
This is the same scent it's been since it was introduced. It's a classic and I love it. Splash it on every morning after my shave and shower. For those of you comparing it to a bottle of cologne from the '70's and saying it's not the same.........NO KIDDING! If you have a bottle of cologne or perfume that's been sitting around for several years, not to mention several decades, it's NOT going to smell the same. Colognes and perfumes are mostly alcohol. Alcohol is the carrier that transports the fragrance to your skin. This is why when you put it on it evaporates and dries very quickly leaving behind only the fragrance. Over time the alcohol evaporates leaving the heavily concentrated essential oils that contain the fragrance. This makes the scent in the bottle very strong. At the same time, these essential oils begin to oxidize and the scent completely changes. Oxidized oil eventually becomes rancid. And this is why a 40 year old+ bottle of cologne smells completely different. It's not capable of sitting around that long. It goes bad. You wouldn't cook with a bottle of olive oil that's been sitting around for 40 years, would you? Talk about rancid!!! The very same principle applies to cologne and perfume. If you don't use it in a couple of years, toss it or buy smaller bottles that you can actually use up in that timeframe.

A classic scent which is very pleasant in moderation.
British Sterling is a strong scent and can be too strong if you use too much! I have heard contrasting reactions, in the past. On lady said, "my husband used to use that and he smelled like a French whore!" But, a younger woman asked me to tell her which scent I was wearing. Presumably, she liked it. I did not tell her that I was rubbing it on my underarms. That way, it seems to mix with your natural scent to produce a pleasant and hopefully more unique and attractive scent? Also, it is reasonably priced unlike other lesser and overpriced scents which I have tried...

It is still British Sterling!
I have used this since I started shaving (About 55 years) and it seems to be just like I remember. I can't find it in stores anymore so I buy it here. It is not too strong or overwhelming, but a nice subtle scent.

Not the cologne of your memories....
This british sterling did bring back memories of my high school years - scent is almost perfect but not quite. I bought this as well as english leather and while you are in the bathroom applying it -- you are transported to another time for sure.but only for a short while -- luckily i ordered the 8oz version as it's not a cologne, it's a cologne splash and once you leave the steamy confines of your shower and go back with other people -- the scent has just about disappeared -- so use it for nostalgia purposes, not for turning any heads, as they won't notice...but thanks for letting me relive my youth...
