The year 2006 marks the 40th anniversary of the release of "My Brother Makes The Noises For the Talkies , the first record by The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. On January 28th 2006 Classic Rock Productions Ltd presented a very special evening celebrating the music and achievements of the legendary Bonzos. The part of the late great and sorely missed Vivian Stanshall was performed variously by Messrs Stephen Fry, Adrian Edmondson, Phill Jupitus and Paul Merton, making this the most exciting evening since the Secret Policeman s Ball. For the first time since the group broke up in the early seventies a British stage once again resounded to the inspired flights of lunacy of the Bonzos favourites performed live. An evening dedicated to the surreal stage presentation of the highlights of the music of the Bonzos, including all of the hits, which have built a lasting musical legacy. Track List: Rule Britannia, My Brother Makes The Noises For The Talkies, Little Sir Echo, Hello Mabel, Falling In Love Again, Watermelon, Jollity Farm, Music From The Leg, By A Waterfall, Sheik of Araby, The Equestrian Statue, We Are Normal, The Strain, The Sound Of Music, Exodus, The Trouser Press, My Pink Half Of The Drainpipe, I m Bored, Sport (The Odd Boy), Mr Apollo, Look At Me, I m Wonderful, San Francisco, Rhinocratic Oaths, Mr Slater s Parrot, Monster Mash, Urban Spaceman, Canyons Of Your Mind, The Intro and Outro, Slush.

Terrific
This live show was fantastic- I was lucky enough to see it whilst they toured with Ade and Phil in it. The show was crazy, clearly un-rehersed and utterly insane. The DVD expresses all of these things very well- although maybe not the most lavish DVD ever made. I agree with another comment about the swearing by some guests, which I picked up at the time but I didn't feel it ruined it (despite its unnessecity).

Disappointing
The technical aspects of the DVD I received were very disappointing and spoiled the overall experience. Fast, live zooming & focussing cause the viewer's eyes to pop out and the camerawork in general is mediocre. The audio is of quite low level, amateur-ish & also, in many parts, of exceptionally poor quality (such as the miking of individual instruments etc - with the possible exception of the keyboards and keyboard players). One or two segments sound as if they have been recorded by someone in the auditorium with a single microphone & cassette recorder!

musical mayhem
Sadly missing the dulcet tones of the unforgettable Vivian Stanshall this is a unique live performance with all the remaining Bonzos with special guests. This band was and still is a one off in British Musical history. They will probably never do this again so buy it. love it, keep it and show your children and grand children.

Review
I've been a fan of the Bonzo's since I was given a cassette when I was about 14 of their album The Doughnuts In Granny's Greenhouse, and managed to find a copy of Keysham a few years ago. There's very little about them on the internet, view remaining pieces of original footage from the 60's and so this 40th Anniversay concert was something I was always going to purchase and that I did.Despite the poor reviews a few people have given it, which I feel although unfair understand their complaints I do feel that this is a better DVD than their reviews give credit for.To start off the negatives are that the sound quality is rather low, and the camera sometimes pans in too quickly you have to bare in mind though that although this is a minor inconvenience it doesn't really detract from the show itself an awful lot.The actual concert well obviously without the genius of the late Vivian Stanshall it was never going to be like old times especially considering as they are now 40 years older than when they originally started out. This was not a chance to find a replacement for Viv, but rather a opportunity to try paying tribute to him by having others such as Rodney Slater, Neil Innes, Adrian Edmonson and a guest appearence from the very wonderful Mr "Legs Larry" Smith singing. That being said it was a good concert, ok it may not have had the spontinaity of origial shows back in the 60's, but it had all the humour, frivolity, and out and out weirdness (I now know what a leg sounds like!!) that you would expect. This is maybe not as good as it could have been but don;t let they disuede you from buying this DVD. I have given it 3 out of 5 because of the audio and video quality, although if your a fan of the Bonzo's i doubt you'll want to pass the chance to purchase this DVD.

If you don't rehearse, you can't do it wrong
I have the Do not Adjust your Set DVD's - I remember watching it as a kid. And have replaced my old vinyl Bonzo albums for downloads. I also saw Niel Innes live some many years ago, and he threw a bucket of water over me during the enchore. I was not sure what to expect from this DVD so many years later, especially with Vivian Stanshall so long gone. I was pleasently pleased, right from the first minute of respectful cocochphony. Many of their best songs were there (one concert would not be long enough for them all), and the celeb guests tried their very best. The sound quality was not too good in parts, but it was a live concert and as Niel Innes says in an introduction "If you don't rehearse, you can't do it wrong". Overall a fun, if unpolished, performance. Just as it should be.
