Product Description In this witty, satirical farce, secretaries Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and office manager Lily Tomlin live every female worker's dream after discovering they share the same resentment towards their egotistical, sexist boss (Dabney Coleman). When they get an unexpected chance to take revenge, they turn their male controlled workplace into a modle office - even as their scheme spins wildly out of control. Set Contains: What's on the "Sexist, Egotistical, Lying Hypocritical Bigot Edition" DVD of one of the more enduring comedies of the 1980s? The cast were obviously delighted for the opportunity to travel down memory lane, providing a commentary. Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin recorded their bits in one city while Jane Fonda recorded hers simultaneously in another city, as they watched the movie again together. The three leads--one, Parton, a rookie actress--made for a well-balanced comedic team whose friendship has endured off-screen for 25 years, a friendship that comes across in their banter. A "Nine At 25" featurette finds the cast and producer dishing such tidbits as the fact Parton came to the set having memorized the entire script, everyone else's parts included. A "9 to 5" karaoke feature may entertain depending on how many drinks one has had at the office party, but the words don't always seem in sync with the music. To celebrate the release of this edition of 9 to 5, the cast, sans Dabney Coleman, reunited in Los Angeles for a party in which Dolly sang the theme song, memories were shared, and actresses dressed as '80s office workers acted busy in cubicles and reception desks.

NOSTALGIC COMEDY
While you couldn't get away with the same storyline today, it's fun seeing Jane, Lily, and Dolly work together in a comedy farce about women in the workplace. While it does make strides in the end, some of it wouldn't pass the smell test today. What can you expect from a 40 year old comedy. Had technology not advanced so quickly, we may still be in the dark ages. Good comedic situations and timing to keep things moving along. One of my older favorites.

A Timeless Classic
Who hasn't smiled or tapped their fingers when they've heard the title song of this film? The lyrics, like this film, are timeless.I was a child when I first saw this film and I didn't remember anything about it, except for the cartoon sequence, and I ordered this DVD on a whim. I'm glad I did! Some of the laughs are bittersweet (things in the canadian workplace haven't changed all that much, recent news stories suggest that companies/employers in Canada now have the "you've come as far as we want you to, baby" (instead of the old refrain, 'you've come a long way, baby'), and Canada hasn't progressed as far as most U.S. states have), but there are a lot of non-bittersweet laughs to be found in this film. The characters and plot are timeless, which I think is the main reason this film continues to be a hit with people in so many countries over the decades.Who HASN'T at some point worked in a job (office job or not) where there's a mean boss, a boss who'll stab you in the back and steal your ideas to get ahead, a boss's pet who can do no wrong, a snoopy co-worker, a co-worker who everyone says is sharing the boss's bed, the threat of downsizing, you're overworked/overlooked/underappreciated/underpaid, a boss or co-worker who degrades you by calling you a filthy name, and so forth. The issues and problems are timeless and people don't truly change, so this film will continue to be a hit for decades to come, I'm sure.Three unlikely (female) characters in this film slowly become friends and their friendship (and the resulting decision to get what's owed them) changes each of their lives, changes the lives of those around them, and changes the company they work for.The ways in which they choose to get what's rightfully theirs are funny, unique, interesting, ingenious, and crazy... and watching the characters develop and blossom is an absolute thrill. If you haven't already seen this film, you absolutely have to see it! The only thing you'll regret is not having already watched it/enjoyed it years ago.

Advertised as new, arrived used
Disappointed as I chose this option because it was advertised as new and was supposed to be for a gift. The outer cardboard cover is discoloured because of it being older. Haven’t tried this disc, but the movie itself is a family favourite.
