Q: Are you able to find any planets with this telescope?

This is my first telescope. I have owned it for about a month. Last night, I was able to easily locate & view Jupiter & Saturn. I was actually amazed that the reddish brown lines that go across Jupiter were easily visible. Saturn with its beautiful rings was was truly amazing.

Q: Is just for star gazing? I want to point it out to sea and watch whales.

This is for celestrial AND terrestrial viewing. yes, you can look at the whales. And yes, you can view the beautiful night sky:D
