what is the exact range this can be used if indoors like say im in a apartment my brother is like 2 miles away in a house will it go that far?

The way it is with these types of cb radios (they are AM)IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY! AM- AMPLITUDE MODULATION: The way It Is Figured- A Mile a Watt-4 Watts = 4 MILES!! BUT!!!! THIS IS WITH OUT OBSTRUCTION OF ANY KIND!!! ***I'VE BEEN THERE!!! LUCKY SOMETIMES- HALF A MILE IN THE CITY? *SUGGESTION!! GMRS OR HAM RADIO!! of course you need a License! But the test is multiple choice! *I have a uv5r pro 8watt ham walkie-talkie. Got the book to Study! U will learn how to connect to Repeaters- and U could talk to someone as far away as- EAST COAST TO WEST COAST!! AND U GET BETTER RANGE IN THE CITY!! When you're not on A REPEATER OR REPEATERS!! *JUST to much to print out for you-but the question is how far do you want to TAKE IT?? IT DOES INVOLVE COMMITMENT!! NOTE: U take the test one time, pass it- and U renew it Every 10 years! * NO TEST!! One more thing- U will be working on different RADIO Waves-VHF UHF! Now U Decide!! **MY OPINION! CB RADIOS- TOYS!!!

Would this be a strong enough cb for listening to close (< 1 mile) truck drivers communicate while on the highway without an added antenna?

I used this in my Ford 450 hot shot for communicating with my escort car during a wide load. I could hear truckers within 200 feet. I heard my escort car perfectly Behind me over 95 feet. You will hear lots of truckers close by while sitting in traffic. Hope this helps.

Has anyone used the uniden pro401hh? if so what do you think of it. what is the range of the device and do you think it would work in the woods.

In the woods it's terrible more like 50 -100 yards. Don't waste your money

What antennas can be used with this radio? I seem to not be able to find any that would greatly improve it.

You could use a regular cb antenna and coax along with a BNC Male to UHF PL259 Female Coaxial Adapter Connector and the radio would transmit and receive much better. Available for purchase in Amazon.
