Great for toms
I was surprised by this mic. I was using the sm57 for my snare, mounted tom and floor tom, but was not getting what I was looking for on the toms. This had a much rounder tone and seemed to be more purpose built for the job.The profile is also very nice compared to the sm58. It is shorter and doesn't get in the way, plus the clip it comes with is very versatile.Overall, ideal for tom drums, and great for home recordings and live shows.

Perfect for any size gig
This mic is durable, easily adjustable and is not at all in the way on my 14" maple snare. Great deal, right in my budget for the small to medium shows I play. Shure always delivers.

Sounds great on my snare
I replaced a cheaper Behringer drum mike with this and it sounds fantastic! Highly recommend it. I'll probably swap out the other Behringers with these for my toms

Great for congas.
I have been using a set of CAD TSM114 and they worked great but after 5 years off gigs they are a mess and I believe they don’t make them anymore. So in my search for a replacement I came across this bad boys. I almost bought the Sennheiser e604’s but I decided to give them a try and I’m happy I did. They work perfectly. I do a lot of live events mainly weddings, sweet 16’s, quinceañeras, divorce party’s. I definitely recommend this mic’s.

Impressed - as food as an SM 57 for toms, but better form factor
Great buy instead of a 57 for drum (tom) mics. Did a side by side A/B and actually order these. Rock solid build quality and better form factor for drum mic’s

Shock Tone
This microphone generates a tone with any shock vibration to the housing, even so little as a light finger tap to the side of the mic. This tone will color the sound of whatever sound waves you're trying to capture. You can eliminate the shock vibration to the housing by isolating the microphone on its own mic stand, but this particular mic was designed to attach to a supplied armature that mounts directly to a snare or tom drum. The impact of the drumstick on the drum is enough to send a vibration through the armature, into the microphone, and produce the tone. I have to say that this is not a very good design. It can make a very good tom sound like it was tuned by a chimpanzee with a hangover.Let's be clear here. I'm a Shure man. About 80% of my microphones are made by Shure, and I think they far exceed the competition by supplying the absolute best bang for the buck. It is not without reason that Shure is the industry standard for quality affordable microphones. When I got the first microphone and was less than thrilled with the extraneous tone, I contacted Shure technical support and discussed it with them. They said it must be a problem with the individual mic that was shipped to me, so I contacted Amazon and got an exchange. Amazon approved the exchange immediately and sent a replacement straight away. Unfortunately, the replacement also makes the same tone, so I must conclude that this is a fault inherent to the design of this low-budget, entry level microphone. When vibrations from the drum are not travelling directly into the mic, it sounds pretty good. This microphone is sturdy and durable. If you are looking for a low-budget mic that you intend to mount to a mic stand, this might be a good option for you. If you absolutely must mount it to your drum with the supplied armature, I would suggest EQing the 250 hz range down to nil to minimize the unwanted tone. It won't go away completely, but you might be able to minimize it enough to be overcome by the desired tone of your drum.I give this mic three stars, although I feel like 2.5 is a bit more appropriate. This is an okay microphone at a great price. If you're on a budget and can't afford the Shure Beta 56, then this might be the right mic for you, but realize that you will need to fiddle with the EQ or attach it to a mic stand to avoid the unwanted tone. I'm keeping the one I have, and I'll use it, but maybe one day I'll scrape up enough cash for a Beta 56.

Micro SHURE PGA56
