Microplane 42601 Artisan Series Coarse Grater, Stainless Steel, Yellow

This was bought as a Christmas present for my daughter-in-law, who seemed to be pleased with it. She had been telling my son that she wanted one so I bought her three.

I already have the finer version and wanted the next two size's up for grating cheese and chocolate. Item also arrived before scheduled due date very pleased thank you.

Why didn't I buy this before? Hygienic. A normal grater involves flesh and blood and lots of washing up!

The Microplane Artisan Coarse Grater is well built for the money, but the results with raw vegetables are not 'coarse'. I like veggies with crunch ... something I can bite into. What emerges from this is a pulpy mass not a lot different from the gloop that's left after running a juicer. Good for Parmesan or zesting (give or take) but by no stretch of the imagination is this 'coarse'. Next up - the Extra Coarse one I suppose. Disappointing.

Excellent graters - works well with all sorts of food.

This microplane grater works okay but is not so easy to clean as the other two I have because the metal grater does not slide out for washing, and it is not quite so robust - but it does the job okay.
