The 20L is about 15 inches. If you did a nice circular stack with the cans you might be able to fit a little more than a 12 pack. Or do a circular stack and fill the middle with ice to keep them cold.😉

The biggest is the 40L, I carried a cozy thick coleman sleeping bag (that is all). I think my answer will be: "It depends" in how you define things for 5 people.
