Q: can this 7w bulb be used in a 5w led max light fitting? (Fitting doesn’t reference traditional wattage)

Shouldnt be an issue here. Concern is usually over heat generation more than anything else and that wont be a problem with this bulb.

Q: Is this compatible with the app on your iPhone? I want to be able to turn it on/off from my phone when away from the house

First bit, yes you can use it with the Phillips app on your phone. Second bit, no you can't do this away from home as it connects to your phone via bluetooth. You would also need the Phillips hue bridge to connect to your bulb to your wifi and control from outside your home. Hope this is of help.

Yes the glass is tinted when turned off, that's how they get the warm glow
