The eco eggs are for use in a washing machine instead of washing liquid and the manufacturers recommend that you remove them before tumble drying. You can get tumble dryer balls and they do make an awful racket in the tumble dryer but they are a different thing.

I read that soaking towels in baking soda solution removes residue and buildup in the fibres. I don't see why it would not work for baby clothes too. Googling it is easier than me explaining it. A good natural fabric conditioner is white vinegar, which works in the same way, I add in a few drops of essential oils, and any vinegar smell dissipates whilst drying.
