Save Your Back!
I am a 64 year old who thinks he is 34. For years I have been pulling off and putting on the tailgate of my one ton Ram pickup by myself, well…..because I could. Unfortunately, it took major back surgery for me to finally admit I needed help to lifting the somewhere just shy of 100 lb tailgate. So I opened a beer and got to thinking while gazing upon the ample derrière of my crew cab pick up. Think of the fellas from “King of The Hill standing over the engine compartment of Dale’s truck…”Yup.”Anyhoo, I put my ‘D’ level high school physics brain to work and thought…”Block and Tackle!” Not the football kind, the weight reducing pulley kind. I bought this set, a pair of long lifting straps to wrap around the tailgate and a wall anchor to hang everything on. Once put together, everything worked like a charm. All of a sudden the monster of an auto part felt like it weighed 20 lbs! I now can easily lift it off the truck, drop it on a dolly and then lean it against the wall of my garage. Speaking of Hank Hill and his “propane and propane accessories”, I can now easily remove the 30 gallon propane tanks from the side of my truck camper. They are literally six feet off the ground when the camper is in the truck.I am very happy with this pulley system. My back is even happier.

If they just had a different rope ...
The blocks are of good quality and appear to be very durable. The pulleys have ball bearings, so there is nearly no friction in the system. The weak part is the provided rope. It is way too short for a 5:1 system, substantially reducing the operating travel of the system to less than 10ft. Also, the rope is of questionable quality, stretchy, and uncomfortable thin. Would be a great system with a longer and better-quality rope. Fortunately, this can be fixed with an after-market rope...

Easy way to lift stuff!
We use it to lift items into our garage attic. One caveat...we had to replace the rope that came with it with a 100' length of rope in order for it to work for us. Very easily done, not a problem. The weight lifting multiplication is super handy!

Study and works great!
Used to lift things in my garage; works great! Smooth and durable

Very light weight.
It works. The rope feels cheap and flimsy. Worked to put some tension on a tree I was cutting down but my confidence in it not breaking was low. Good for light weight lifting.

A great product for the cost
I use this block and tackle with a ramp in order to get myself in and out of the garage since I was confined to a walker. Four wheeled walker. I showed a photo of that in another review and this review I show that I used it to move one of my cars that was on wheel dollies that are almost impossible to roll a vehicle especially when there is any grime on the floor and when all the wheels on the dollies all pointing in different directions. I was able to use this to move my car away from the wall using my max strength. I expected it to break, but it did not.

A little disappointed
I not particularly happy with this product. I bought this hoist as a way to hang food in the trees for an up coming kayak trip in bear country. It'll do the job, but here's what I don't like:1.) I'm not sure what the purpose of the plastic pulley wrapper is for. Does it keep the cord from slipping off? I'm not sure it's really needed. If it's not needed, it just makes the pulley bulkier; and for my use space is critical. Other competitor products don't have a plastic wrapper around their pulley. I don't know for sure, but maybe it's just a gimmick to make me think it's a better pulley system.2.) If you remove the wrapper to re-cord the pulley, you'll find that they use two different bolt lengths. It's not necessarily a big issue, but it just makes reassembling the cover a little more confusing as to which end should the long bolt go into and which end uses the short bolt. I think they could have come up with a design where they used the same length bolts.3.) the top and bottom pulleys are not the same. The top pulley only has 2 wheel bearings and the bottom pulley has 3 wheel bearings. It turns out that this doesn't prevent it from functioning correctly. It only affects what how you re-cord the pulley. The Amazon page for this product contains a video on what you need to do to re-cord the pulley, but if you look at it, you'll see that the two pulleys that they are using in this video are identical; they both have 3 wheel bearing. I suspect that the manufacturer did this as a cost saving change. I would have preferred having the top and bottom pulleys being symmetrical in design. That video misrepresents the product that you get.4.) For my application, a 50 foot cord is not long enough. A 50 foot cord only gets you around 8-1/3 feet of lifting distance. In hanging food for bear mitigation, you need at least 12 feet. So, I'll have to buy a longer cord for this pulley system to work for my application.5.) I read someone's review who said that the cord snapped for them when they tried to lift 20 gallons of water. So that's roughly 167 pounds plus the weight of the container they were using. In other words not even close to the 1000 pounds of lift that they claim. Well, I did some research on cord strength. The cord they give you is rated 2000 pounds. That is what you call your tensile strength. The weight that the test cord snapped at. Working load is the load that you can use the cord safely. The working load is alway less than its tensile strength. Cords degrade and loose their strength each time you use them. The recommendation is to have a 10 to 1 ratio of tensile strength to working load. And if you want to meet some fire code standards that ratio would be 15 to 1. The claim that you can lift a 1000 pounds only gives you a safety ratio of 2 to 1. So based on the article I read, a 1000 pounds of load far exceeds the recommended safe load you can lift. If you used the 10 to 1 safety recommendation, then this pulley system using the cord that they are providing you should only have a working load of 200 pound, not 1000 pounds. What surprises me is that the review that talked about the cord snapping for them lifting 20 gallons of water, claimed it was the first time they used it. Assuming that review was truthful, they are using a cord whose strength is not being quality tested. For the most part cord strength is a function of cord thickness, cord material and cord manufacturing process. In being fair, most of the other competitive products are well over estimating their safe load rate. The problem is that's what gets people hurt.6.) I returned the order because I saw the one pulley only having two bearing. I thought it was an assembly error and have a new one shipped back to me. Well, I reordered a second one and it had the same issue, so I concluded that's how they are now manufacturing it. The only reason I discovered that was because the cord and the pulley's were not properly threaded. The cords were criss-crossing and tangling with one another when I tried to use it. Someone else reviewed that they got theirs without the cord and pulley being assembled. Not a big issue, as you can fix it by rethreading the cord; but it another testimony to this suppliers lack of quality control.

Exactly what was needed
I was building a sailing dinghy which I planned to store in the garage hoisted close to the roof and 2 of these worked perfectly.Nicely packed with a stowage bag as well.

Works great, but rope is a bit short.
This rope/pulley set is great and does exactly what it should. It's study and the rope is really nice quality. Everything is pretty sturdy, and should be fine for the rated load. Only things to pay attention to are that it's not overly huge and so it can be a bit fiddly. Most important thing is to check the rope length when buying: remember that the rope goes back and forth several times, so 60 ft of rope only gives about 10 ft of travel for the end of the pulleys. Great for lifting something floor to ceiling - I used it to control sliding heavy gym equipment down my stairs. If I ever have to bring it back up, I'll definitely need it again, but the rope was barely long enough.

Poleas robustas
