A great book - but i would have liked more
I really enjoyed reading the book. The writer clearly had great access to this brave leader who did so much for Israel and the Jewish people. My big complaint is that i would have liked to have read more about it from Bar-On's perspective. I would have liked more detail in many of the most important parts of the book including of course his rise to become chief of staff, his return to the Ministry of Defense in the weeks before the Six Day War, the Yom Kippur War itself and the negotiations with Egypt that led to the peace accords. While all of these events are indeed covered and covered well, i simply wanted more.Regardless this is a very good book worth reading (and buying), congratulations to Mr. Bar-On, it was a real page turner.

Should he had become Israeli's PM, the world wouldn't have problem in the Middle East today.
I suggest everybody seeking peace to read this book. Should Moshe succeeded in politics, the situation in the Middle East and Gaza would be different. Moshe was a strong military man, but he was also a human in kind nature. Should the Israeli politicians followed his method of dealing with Arabs, there would be peace and friendship in Israel today. Not only Moshe, but some of his generals, such as General Peled, were not only powerful military commanders, but also commanders with high morality towards humanity, peace and co-existence. May I suggest to read "The General's Son" as a supplementary to this book. It is authored by the son of the General Peled and is a peace activist in the U.S.A.

A detailed and well-documented, but unexciting, biography.
Sixty years ago the author, a young officer, served as manager of Dayan's office. This enabled him to write several books about Israeli defense in the years 1950-56. Now he has turned to Dayan himself, producing a detailed and well-documented, but unexciting, biography.

A great read!
This is a very thoughtfully written and researched biography. This appears to be the most authoritative biography in print on Dayan.

Good overview
Good basic overview of this very interesting man's life (a more controversial life than I was raised to believe). Its interesting that the author had worked with the man.

Moshe Dayan
This man was a charasmatic and brilliant strategist. He loved his county, and did everything he possibly could to keep Israel safe from the surrounding countries who refuse to and still do, accept it as a legitimate and democratic country. A great read.

Moshe Dayan
so much admired Moshe Dayan was certainly a very important part of Israeli's history alongside Ben Gurion and Shimon Peres. I have collected many books on their history - also Golda Meir - so am very happy to have bought this book to complete part of a time that I have lived alongside them! So sad that he died practically alone.
