Q: Can the ratchet tool be used both horizontaly and vertically?

Yes it can, but I find it works best for me horizontally. I have used mine on ls, sbc, and bbc blocks works great,very happy.

Q: What is the width of the band

According to my husband, the width is 1 1/2 inches. Hope this helps you!
