This brand of green mussel supplement works.
This brand of green mussel supplement works. I was skeptical and after watching late evening commercials for another popular brand, I researched and decided to try FoodScience of Vermont New Zealand Green Lipped Sea Mussel Supplement. The cost of this is so much less and the results were what I was hoping for. Joint pain is almost completely gone with no stiffness. I still work, at 65 yrs old, in receiving for an Army commissary and I will be able to continue pretty much pain free.Update; SWITCHED to another brand due to so many outages of this product but am reordering because of it being back in stock. this brand of green mussel works and is so well worth it's use.

Smells like a Pacific coast beach; works better than glucosamine
A family history of ailments and returning from a running injury led me to seek out new methods of ensuring the knees were being properly cared for. Doing research on the Green Lipped Sea Mussel I decided to give it a try and Food Science of Vermont offered a good product at a reasonable price. When first opening the jar it brought me back to my youth at the beach! The smell of mussels at the wharf, salt air...in condensed form! A little overwhelming at first though reminding myself mussels are strong smelling and these are packed into capsules. No bad taste, no after-taste of odor of any sort. Taken now for three weeks and I think these are helping not only the knees; an overall less achy-ness after lifting and paddling lets me know the joints are happier than only taking glucosamine.I plan to keep this in my rotation of supplements.

Stuff Works....!
You might assume, like I did, it would be fish oil type of supplement but it'sdried. Regardless, if the super strong fishy smell indicates anything it doesn'tseem to matter. I did 2 caps twice a day with a meal and noticed a difference in myknees in 2-3 weeks! If I skip a few days like over the weekend when I don'tfollow my regular routine I can tell the difference. I cut back to 2 in the morningbut am going to try uping it a little or taking 1 twice a day and see what it does formy shoulder, elbow, hip.... I may even try the more expensive brand at some pointbut wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one...1 year update.... Now take 2 in the morning and that's it. Knees definitely feel better. Tried a more expensive brand that was the actual oil but no difference so sticking with these.

No surgery necessary now!
So it may be a coincidence or maybe Sammie's torn ACL was not significant but 3 months ago we were told if she didn't heal, plan on surgery. I did some research and came up with a home remedy of one joint max tablet, two sea mussel capsules and one fish oil gel tab per meal (twice a day) and behold - we have no lameness at all!And for those who have reviewed negatively about lead content, I called Food Science directly and this is what I was told: The sea mussel product does include minute traces of lead, they had to start labeling their products with this information only because a California law called for it. So those supplements you find in the health food stores not in the State of California still may contain lead, they are just not required to tell you!According to the nice lady at Food Science, a batch test of the Sea Mussel Supplement in March 2013 showed that the maximum recommended adult dosage of the Food Science Sea Mussel Supplement (6 capsules) contained about the same amount of lead as a sweet potato and FAR LESS than a handful of shrimp! check this out if you're still concerned:Q: Why is lead in food products?A: Lead is present in small amounts throughout the environment due to its natural occurrence and its release into the environment by human activities. Lead in soil can be deposited on or absorbed by plants, including plants grown for food. Lead that gets in or on the plant cannot always be completely removed by washing or other steps in the processing of the food. Many food products would be expected to contain very small amounts of the element -- in the range of parts per billion (ppb). A part per billion is equivalent to the value of one penny compared to that of 10 million dollars.more here(...).fda.gov/Food/FoodSafety/Product-SpecificInformation/FruitsVegetablesJuices/ucm233520.htm

Do not buy
This product had a terrible odor from the very opening of the package. I took it and within 5 minutes I was sick in the stomach. I know it is not returnable. I should have stayed with omega xl.

Takes effect over time
This item helps create synovial fluid between the joints which aids in arthritis pain and bone on bone conditions.I take one per day after an early meal because it sometimes "burps" up a fishy smell, which some people do not like. I've been taking this for over a quarter century and it works wonders for my joints. You won't notice the effect until a week or two after starting to take these.
