Mine gave off the most horrible toxic electrical burning odor I've ever experienced. It stank up my whole apartment and I had to unplug it before I could even finish the "burn in". Unfortunately I was already passed the return time and couldn't return my unit.

Q: Can this burner be placed directly on the counter top without scorching the counter top?

Yes I use mine on a counter without any problem
