Hi John. The mentioned diameter 8" is for the outer ends. The inner diameter is a little over 7".

Q: can you use this for deep frying? has anyone tried to deep fry on this? will this not cause oil to be overly hot and splatter? thank u

I don’t think it’s big enough for deep frying. Plus this is the pot to keep soup hot longer, so that your food stay warm during the meal.
