Why does this have a japanese name when it is made in china and "designed" in brooklyn, ny? it seems like a misrepresentation.

They were originally designed as an accessory during the Manhattan Project to filter out any nuclear fallout, however the blueprints were stolen by Russia and sold to China in exchange for a hacked Nintendo game boy used by the CIA for experimental MK Ultra purposes.

does it have a form of ionizer

Yes, it apparently does. Pulled out the card that came with it & it says "... let it run a few minutes to purify & ionize the air..."

I have just received mine and it does not blow air. I can hear an engine (low) and it becomes very hot but there is no air flowing. Is this normal?

Do all of the above mentioned for the not turning on. Sometimes mine is touchy you have to try multiple times and hold your finger. Its a design issue of a curved touch pad. I still wouldnt trade this one for any other ive tried 6 diff brands this has been the best and keeps my air fresh inside.
