Doesn’t start strong, but reels you in with all the implications
All in all, quite a wonderful psychological thriller that scratched an itch left behind after reading all of Freida McFadden’s books. I didn’t feel so at first, though, as the beginning meanders and isn’t quite as strong as it could be. The only other criticism I have is that the back and forth time skips which are not even chronological can start grating on you, but the twists make up for it in a big way.You won’t regret picking this up, but DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE EASILY TRAUMATISED OR AFFECTED BY SENSITIVE MATTERS.

A good read
Chilling as as any book from Marrs. It was a bit more predictable than what lies between us, but is a good read nonetheless.

Thrilling, Terrifying and a must read
The book starts with a thrilling, dramatic prologue, keeping the readers hooked right from the beginning. Keep It In The Family is a fast paced, disturbingly twisted tale yet one that keeps you hooked through the jaw dropping finale. The characterisation is outstanding, each powerful and complex. From Finn to Mia to Dave to Debbie, each has a personality that is raw, complex, realistic and captivating. John Marrs's writing is powerful that despite of certain chapters that makes you cringe, you still feel compelled enough to read it till the end. He has manages to portray the complexities of families, the relationships, values ingrained and how we justify our actions and the deep potential for evil that exists in the most unsullied of characters.I do recommend to read 'Keep It In The Family' if you love brilliant writing, jaw twisting plotlines and love reading multi-person narration alongwith some surprise elements. My rating: 5/5

Dark and Sordid
Extremely dark and Sordid story which leaves an unpleasant feeling at the end. Convoluted and complicated the novel is more about human abnormality and uncouth human psychology.

Dark, creepy, and disturbing read. Absolutely recommend.
3.5 starsI went into this blindly having read raving reviews of the same. While it was not as remarkable as expected, it definitely was intriguing! The prologue, in particular, gave me goosebumps and drew me in so completely that I couldn't put it down.Mia and Finn are in the process of restoring a dilapidated old house and temporarily residing with Finn's in-laws. Mia's relationship with her mother-in-law is strained, and she's eager to move out and start their new life in their own home. However, things take a dark turn when they discover a cryptic message in the house, leading to unsettling revelations about its gruesome past. As if that wasn't enough, Mia goes into labor unexpectedly in the middle of all this, adding to the already stressful situation. With every passing day, more secrets come to light, threatening to destroy Mia's life as she knows it.While the suspense may not have been mind-blowing, the twists and turns had me completely hooked! I was on the edge of my seat as the plot unraveled, eager to see what would happen next. But it was the climax that really got to me - it was so creepy and unsettling that I found myself recoiling in horror and whispering "No, please no."One thing I've realized is that the characters are the key to my enjoyment of a book. If I don't connect with or root for any of them, then it's difficult to invest myself in the story fully. Unfortunately, in this case, I didn't find myself particularly drawn to any of the characters, and that was a bit of a letdown.I'm typically not a fan of stories that use dual timelines, however, this book pulled it off quite well. Additionally, I haven't read many books that use multiple points of view, including that of the killer, and I found it a unique way of telling the story. Mia’s tense relationship with her mother-in-law, the ups and downs of marriage & the revelations of the dark history of the house they were renovating all kept me fully engaged!Dark, creepy, and disturbing read. Absolutely recommend.

Unnecessarily drawn out
The plot was good. But the story was drawn out and feels forced at some point. Some plotholes in between.
