The power source needs to be connected.

Q: What's a fiber optic connection do you need it in order to use it on a computer

It takes a standard fiber optic cord. However you can also connect with the standard headphone jack or Bluetooth. Mine included a fiber optic cord too which was sweet of them.

It cannot be hooked up to a subwoofer
